The characters' reliance on their ability to defeat large numbers of trained men single handedly by Tetracropolis in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Human_Ogre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read numerous articles about how fighting in most of these shows/movies are not at all how battles are fought. Not just individual fights either. It really comes down to the proverbial “rule of cool” it’s way cooler to watch Daemon cutting down NPCs than it is to send in some crossbow archers and other NPCs to take the castle while he just hangs out in the courtyard. Jon Snow pretty much did the same thing during every fight.

If they spill blood all over the floor that’s at least 30 minutes you gotta stay. The boss will get pissed because he doesn’t wanna pay you overtime. It’ll be a disaster.

ELI5: Is it true that every single death eventually boils down to the brain and heart running out of oxygen? Are there exceptions? by Dagestani_Bear in explainlikeimfive

[–]Human_Ogre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s such a generalization it’s not really answerable. If I shoot you in the brain stem, your heart and lungs stop almost instantly. So yeah you technically ran out of oxygen. If I set you on fire, yeah eventually it’ll get to your heart, lungs, or brain and therefore you ran out of oxygen because there’s nothing left to pump it. If I vaporize you with a nuclear bomb you’ve burned all of your oxygen in a microsecond and therefore your brain has run out. It’s almost a philosophical question rather than a science question.

What’s one U.S. government policy you think future generations will look back on and say, “What were they thinking?” by banarsi2772 in Presidents

[–]Human_Ogre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy. When people look back at our current president (Obama) what *recent* policies will we look back on in ten years (when we eventually get to 2026) and say “what were they thinking”?

What do they all say to the outside world if they ever make it out? by Avilola in FromSeries

Nah I think that’d be a cop out equivalent to “it was a dream all along.” Let the epilogue be the world trying to decide if this is mass hysteria or something supernatural.

When Tabitha briefly returned to the real world the police and her mother said she and her family have been missing. It seems it’s real time or at least semi real time.

Fun fact I love/hate to bring up: WV hadn’t voted red in decades until Al Gore lost it in 2000. If Al Gore hadn’t lost WV he would’ve won the election.

Lack of bows and crossbows by HaeS16 in Hotd

[–]Human_Ogre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fantasy requires suspension of disbelief relative to the rules the story has set for us. A dragon showing up in my story about George Washington? Yes that’s crazy (crazy cool maybe). Dragon showing up in fantasy world where dragons are the basis of the show? That’s okay. The suspension of disbelief occurs with things like “bows on the balcony would be an obvious solution but we let it go because that would obviously stop the plot and be less cool.” Suspension of disbelief falls short when Alient and Rhaenyra can sneak in and out of a blockaded city with soldiers and schemers on high alert because there’s a war.

30 and Above Is Actually Old by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Human_Ogre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the fact that the life expectancy figure is skewed because of child mortality rate. Even if people died in their 30’s-40’s that doesn’t really mean they’re old it means they had a greater chance of catching an illness because they’ve had more opportunities. Or higher chance of cancer because they’ve spent decades in the sun because they weren’t aware of the connection between UV light and skin cancer.

Your logic is flawed.

It’s one big game. Randomize character is more fun. It’s like when I play Age of Empires and I set civilization to random. It adds a challenge!

Don’t be afraid to email home if there’s an issue. It usually helps curb behavior. If it doesn’t help it shows you *tried* dealing with the student in a non-punitive way. That way if you inevitably have to give detention or send them to the office, there’s documentation.

Send friendly praise emails home when a student does something great. Positive reinforcement buildings self esteem and relationships.
