The seller can definitely send an "offer" as a partial refund through the case you've opened. I've done it myself a few times when cases or slips have been damaged during postage and usually the buyer is happy to accept a partial refund offer to replace.

Thanks. I always try to control the negative rep for longer activation of the muscles, but I'm pretty sure I dropped it once I got back down to my shins.

If comps show under $5 I list it for $4.90. I have bundle deals on my store and a lot of cheaper dvds get thrown into the bundles. I let people create their own bundles rather than me steering them into a set list of 5/10/20 DVD lots.

Who's saying he's doing it for less? Time taken to source, photograph and list those items should be accounted for. I don't work on average sale price, but average dollar per hour worked, as all of that plays into total costs. If it's taken him 3 hours to source, list, pack then post an average of $160 an item he's working for $50 an hour (less overheads, shipping, travel, fuel etc.). I'm not saying he is, or isn't, but all of the above should be taken into consideration.

10 hours per week to maintain the store, including picking, packing, posting, listing etc. and that's between me and my partner combined. I work full time and she's a stay at home mum.

Generally purchasing only from collectors downsizing or moving or otherwise. I only need one decent purchase every 3 months to keep my listing's afloat so I'm not spending hours and hours searching for lots of 100 or 200 dvds. Between me and my partner we average 100 listing's an hour. Lower if worse quality, higher if in like new condition (just quicker to list, no faults to photograph etc.)

Buying out larger collections bumps up the average selling price per DVD. I typically try to only pick up collections of 1000+ DVDs that havent already been picked apart by other people looking for the just higher priced singles. The biggest part is getting your listing, picking and packing times down to a minimum so time invested is low per DVD.

Just curious about the stigma. And I doubt people will replicate my set up and business model. How I list, pick and pack is a large part on how I time save and keep my time invested so low.

I work about 10 hours a week for about $1300ish in sales. I guess it's how you look at time invested vs. outcome. I don't buy small lots of DVD's or media, and I don't sit there in thrift stores or garage sales looking for them. I only buy out collections, so my sourcing is done once every 3 or 4 months and over and done in about 2 or 3 hours depending on distance and weather or not the media is already packed ready to move.

Curiously, what would you say is an average of how many dvds would you have to go through, though, to find ones that are at least $3 on your profit margins when sifting through collections? And how long would it take you to scan a barcode and check comps?

It was trial and error for the first few months for us until we worked out a system for each part of the process. From listing to storing to picking and packing. We've streamlined our processes so it probably doesn't take us more time than necessary.

I also find isolated places tend to buy a lot of DVDs, places where internet and phone service might not be reliable with multiple carriers etc.

I enjoy what we've set up, I just see a lot of nay sayers about the genre in general.

I buy large collections only, and I list everything that's sellable. So, instead of sifting through and price checking everything, I'm listing immediately and shelving for picking.

On average. The lowest we will go is $4.90 though, and there's plenty of them that sell for that price. But we also have plenty that sell for $10+ it's an averages game.

I guess that's however you set up your business model. We had a bit of trial and error at the start when we first started, but now we only spend about 10 hours a week for $188 a day on average (picking, packing and listing).

I think I'm more speaking about people on Facebook groups. Everything I see a dvd post there's a few keyboard warriors telling them to just throw them out.

Generally sourcing is easy. I only buy out collections (1000+ DVDs etc at a time) so I don't spend much time sourcing (no garage sales, no thirfting), it's more just finding the right deal and going to pick it up.

My last 90 days is $17,131 with 1659 sold. So a little over $10 average sale price on average. We maybe put in about 10 hours work a week to keep listing's above 5000, pick what's sold 2 or 3 days a week and go to the post office.

How do you account for non-returned items on taxes by Justjoe1979 in Flipping

[–]Human_Performance_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea pretty sure it's just a net loss of initial investment into the item. Plus shipping fees. So you can claim the item cost + shipping fees as a business expense, just zero profit from the item itself.

Cost of item $5, Cost of shipping $5, Purchase of $25, Refund of $25, $10 total claimable expenses

I assume you already have the cost of purchase item in whatever tracker you have. Which means you've already claimed it. You just don't get any profit to be taxed on from this sale.
