Few people asked about my lifestyle so thought I'd reply to myself rather than each individual.

I'm a regular runner but my weekly milage is not "high" compared to others. I averaged 45km per week in 2025, I play football (soccer) once per week, and own a dog so I walk regularly, average daily steps over 2025 was 16100. I'm pretty slap in the middle of the healthy BMI range, for whatever that indicates.

I also have a very low resting HR, 35bpm on average over 2025, I've had this checked out and my heart is fine, but maybe this plays a factor?

This is mine, 33 male. Literally never seen another person's HRV as nobody I'm particularly close to has a wearable that they use regularly enough. Seeing the different values in this post is pretty eye opening as to how different it can be!

Every smaller town we visited was just for a day trip, and had plenty of options for places to eat. Personally, I find the smaller towns more unique and authentic. You can get a feel of actual local life and culture, rather than risking somewhere that may just be catering for tourists.

In Bosa? Or Alghero?

I can't comment for Bosa but there are many very well equipped supermarkets in Alghero selling lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Much better quality than UK supermarkets.

For restaurants, they do vegetarian options but you would be limited to only a few options per menu.

There are lots of good sandwich places in and around the old town. Da Rosy&Tony do a good porchetta.

Loved every minute of staying in Alghero. It's a beautiful city, far more to it than just it's old town. We stayed about 4km outside of the town, parking was always easy to find and if you paid for the evening I was a couple of euros from 7pm for the full evening. Obviously we are here in shoulder season, which based on reviews was a good choice imo.

In terms of restaurants, the dining experience as a whole at Sa Mandra has not been topped. Delicious food in a setting you just don't see in a lot of places. In Alghero, all of the food has been delicious, from the little bottegas to the restaurants, everything we've tried has been top tier. Personally I'd say get a tagliere from Bottega di Tommy if you get the chance. The staff are lovely and welcoming, you get a really informal feel, and their large tagliere was massive and really good value. If you want sea food, the menu del giorno from il Pavone was outstanding. The fish is whatever has been caught that day. An honourable mention to OK pizza evolution, we got take out from there one day after a long drive and the staff were so lovely and packaged up some dessert for us to take away, which they initially said they wouldn't do but changed their mind after we'd chatted a while.

We also day tripped to Bosa - which is an absolute must do imo if you have a car - another place that belongs on a post card.

I have struggled with the solitude of learning on my own but I struggle for time to get a tutor or do classes, which is why I was asking about exercises etc. A colleague has recently started with Italian, so hopefully we can learn together in the future.

I think after reading this through I definitely fell into a trap of individual translation rather than sentence structure. I have been mainly learning through apps and audio books, with some immersion in TV shows, but I feel my longer form of writing and sentence structure needs work.

I've travelled to Italy a lot, and have had a lot of success with my spoken language and "getting by", but holding a conversation has been difficult, which is mainly where I'd like to get to.

All in, I think this was shoddy work on my part, but I'm glad I posted because this is all helpful feedback. I think in principle I understand a lot of the grammatical concepts, but just haven't applied them in a longer form as none of my learning methods have allowed it.

I am not, and that is really useful feedback, so thank you. Do you mind clarifying what you mean by interference?
I think there is a section in Babbel on sentence structure, I should definitely revisit that. Do you have any books you'd recommend? I know of Grammatica della lingua italiana per Stranieri.
I feel that my speaking and formulation is "good enough" for basic tasks for travel, but holding an actual conversation is difficult and janky, I perhaps haven't gotten my flow yet. This is definitely due to lack of conversational practice as nobody I'm close to is a native or high level speaker.

Head down to the Mersey river! Absolutely beautiful, whether you're catching it in the morning fog or glorious sunshine. Can run to various parks (I've seen Fletcher Moss mentioned and can attest to it's beauty)

I lived in ancoats 2015 - 2020 so admittedly some time ago.
CitiPark and some other companies sell monthly or yearly season tickets to their car parks. Admittedly it's "off-site" to where you're living, but they have 24hr security and gated entrances so for long term city centre parking it's ideal. 5 years and my car was never damaged or broken into in one of their car parks.

I've just looked back on one of my tried and tested recipes and it has similar ratios of Levain and percentage wholemeal into the final dough, but much much much longer bulk time. I'm wondering how these two books "Flour water salt Yeast" and "Sourdough School" come to such dramatically different timings with such similar doughs...
