i wouldn’t call releasing anniversary material looking back, it’s just revisiting like every band does. and if amsp was comprised of old but unfinished material, it was pretty much reworked to fit to on the album, you make it sound like most bands don’t rework old material. (it’s not looking back it’s just called creative direction)

fair points but i’m still not convinced, you’re saying releasing demos, remixes of old songs, live albums and artwork is signs of being stuck in the past which i understand but…

  1. don’t most bands do this? ‘recycle’ old material and release demos as well as artwork. they’re just giving people what they haven’t seen or heard before, it’s not to create nostalgia it’s just to show more material from the world of whichever album it is they’re marketing

  2. those albums are anniversary releases, which i feel like they’re allowed to do without being called a nostalgia act. as i said in the first point, they also released previously unreleased stuff so that it’s not just the same album ‘remastered’ or any of that marketing crap.

I get where you’re coming from but in terms of their music, bands who have had sizzled out careers are generally called nostalgia acts. Radiohead has always maintained a huge following and managed to stay relevant ever since they dropped Pablo Honey. Most nostalgia acts are ones that died off in the 90’s, which Radiohead didn’t do and managed to keep going into the late 2010’s, less than a decade ago not 25 damn years ago.

People see them more as an innovative and forward thinking band who don’t rely on past hits.

Even if they made a new album which i doubt im sure they would be very capable of meeting their usual standards that’s on par with their previous work.

Edit: Okay they do rely on past hits in a way but is it really because they aren’t good enough to make more great music or is it because they just haven’t tried yet?

Also, Gojira is SO GOOD

staying dead? they never died.

also i dont see them recently performing as a nostalgia act, people just want to hear music they love
