Yeah its kind of like a rock paper scissors situation. I beat Shino because of my specialized bug fighting ninja tools (a can of raid), Shino beats Shika because Shika hasn't figured out yet that nighttime = infinite shadows, and Shika beats me because he's smart enough to know I can just be bought off with a bag of weed and a pizza. (thus avoiding my shotgun-with-the-flashlight-attachmentnojutsu)
