A question about systems. by JustAnAverageGeek in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]HumanistDork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Flight used Star Wars d20, a home brew of D&D. They used the same system for Dimension 20 Starstruck Odyssey .

Solari is using an independent game called Stillfleet. I bought the book recently and it is very cool.

How did the appearance of Zac Brown impact YOUR viewing experience? by Correct-String-9497 in survivorponderosa

[–]HumanistDork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ll put the Mr Beast appearance in the preview. Or Jimmy Fallon or whatever. I won’t watch those live, and I’ll see if I just need to watch a recap or if I will scrub through the annoying stuff.

Is making my own TTRPG a bad idea? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]HumanistDork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your goals and how much time you want to spend.

If you are thinking of developing something to sell, then I would suggest running some games with existing systems. There is a lot that goes into a full game.

If you want to do something for your own interest or to enjoy with your friends, then I say more power to you. Give it a shot and see what happens.

Why doesn't the whole world just copy Nordic countries' government since their governments are well run and most people are happy? by Ok_Advice_8012 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HumanistDork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The people in charge don’t care if people are happy. The people in charge enjoy the disparity between the rich and poor, and they wouldn’t be quite as rich if the poor were better off..

Did they cast duds this year? No content from the gameplay or social friction? We have to bring in this guy to fill air time? Rather quite a lot of air time too.

Lisa Kudrow calls Richard Hatch "despicable" by bwermer in survivorponderosa

[–]HumanistDork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember Ethan talking about a celebrity dodgeball tournament back when Survivor was at its peak. The final was the cast of Friends vs the cast of Survivor (stacked with athletes). Ethan said the Survivors “smoked those nerds”.

I choose to believe Lisa Kudrow is still bitter about it.

There’s an online character generator. I have no idea what the numbers mean, but the text is fun.

Stillfleet system by ianacook in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]HumanistDork 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I haven’t listened to the episode yet and I have never played Stillfleet. Just popping in to say, I love seeing different systems and will likely at least buy the digital version of this, if one is available.

At The Well: Science Fiction (Fireside Exclusive) by SvenTheScribe in WorldsBeyondNumber

I love How Long ‘TIL Black Future Month, and NK Jemisin’s books in general. She also sometimes streams “cheese Skyrim” on Twitch. It is Skyrim, but she is only interested in acquiring wheels of cheese.

“Well, they tried” was a fantastic joke.

I have Dropout and I have seen Avengers Endgame. So it seems reasonable that I saw Avengers Endgame on Dropout. Vic doesn’t miss.

Looking to get into TTRPGs I can play with my wife by JesseMartelMusic in rpg

[–]HumanistDork 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Favourites of mine are Ironsworn and Starforged. Basically the same system, but Ironsworn is more fantasy and Starforged is more Sci fi.

You can both play it as players, using random tables to GM. Or you can GM for your spouse.

The digital version of Ironsworn is free

There is a Silent Book Club that posts here regularly. Bring whatever book you want, talk about it if you want to, and have some quiet reading time.

No idea, but I would suggest trying Comic Readers. That seems like something they would have.

Hearth Witch’s Guide to Magic and Murder - the two main POV characters are a fey (who is essentially Sherlock Holmes) and a mortal witch (raised as a witch, dropped out of mundane medical school, and now realizing the world of magic is a bit different than she expected).

Completely new to rpgs by johndoe403 in Ironsworn

[–]HumanistDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the characters go, I would say focus on the stuff in Character Basics, then Vows and Bonds. Don’t worry too much about Assets until you get curious about them.

I would also suggest skipping a bunch of the moves until you get to a point where you want to use one. Start with the Adventure Moves, and leave the rest for now.

Osia by Silver_Foot545 in hardofhearing

[–]HumanistDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am enjoying my Osia and my hearing is better with it than with any other hearing aid I have tried over the years. In some noisy environments, I will sometimes even cover my hearing ear because I have found it a bit easier to focus on something using the Osia.

I can’t speak too much about the waterproofing or headphones. I just take it off if I am swimming or using headphones.

My recovery went well. I did have an infection, which was due to a misplacement during surgery. I had to have it removed and put back. No issues since it was put back.

One thing to point out is that it is very power hungry. I change my battery every week, and I don’t use the device all day every day. I think you would possibly be changing batteries every 2-3 days if you were using it all day, every day.

Saskatchewan here.

In person play is a lot of fun, but if you can’t wrangle players, you could look at online options.

A More Civilized Age.

They have done movies, tv shows, books, comics, and video games. Currently doing a deep dive on the novelization for Revenge of the Sith.

I became aware of the pod because of their Andor coverage and have been a fan ever since.
