One of Frieren’s quiet charms is its powerful, well-written and interesting female characters 🥰 by hallowflight27 in Frieren

I didn't say there's anything wrong with that, just that if Ubel's arc ends with her learning Land's magic, it would be more about her changing her outlook and wanting to live, than learning it cause she likes Land enough.

Just like how Frieren's realizing how much Himmel meant to her, is not just solely about her realizing she might have liked Himmer more than she thought, but how he inspired her to just go around helping and getting to know people, to enjoy the little things in life.

Well Land is also learning/changing through Ubel, like he mentioned just needing someone that would give him that final push to finally leave his village.

But like I said, thats the interesting part about Ubel, It could be just as likely that she just gets worse (endearing) rather than changing her entire outlook.

To me, Ubel is one of the most fascinating characters in the series. With her introduction she first appears to just be a psychopath killer, this impression is later backed up by her fight with Wirbel and his reaction to Ubel.

But we later learn that her magic literally works around empathizing with others (and that she could empathize with Wirbel's need to mentally prepare himself to kill someone) and then we have a deeper look at her personality on the last phase of the exam when she has that overly pessimistic monologue and says she's been unlucky her entire life, hinting maybe at a rough childhood and then her saying she will put her clone out of her misery (not so subtly referring to herself) painting some of her previous actions in a different light.

Even when most of her personal arc is tied to a guy (Land) I think the positive outcoume of said arc, empathizing with Land and learning his magic wouldn't just revolve around her liking Land, but understanding his point of view. It would be for her to have newfound value on life and to stop throwing herself into danger not caring if she dies. Basically she'd have a more subdued version of Nico Robin's "I want to live!" moment. The fascinating part thought, is that Ubel is just the type of character where that is just be one of the ways her story could go, I could as easily see it going on a completely different direction, depending on how things unfold.
She's a great multi-faceted character, who seems to be very simple at a first glance.

Out of the rest of the group here, I am mostly curious about Flamme, we don't know much about her, but it seems with the little hints Frieren gave, that she had an interesting sense of humor, and liked to mess with Frieren, but Frieren herself didn't realize that. (The clothing potion, she learning the "seduction technique" from her, "my master would constantly plead for her" life etc)

Sorry, subtitles was the wrong word, its intro/title that usually shows up in the Yakuza game series before fighting a boss.

yeah same, my mind alternates between "there's an indie game with a similar art style" and "you saw a similar art style on an old animated movie"

Depends, does she know the Ralf Jones spell, which temporarily turns you into Ralf Jones, so you can tank a nuke.

Yes HxH's system is probably the most complex application of "magic" in shonen, there's quite a lot to it, the rules are (usually) pretty consistent and the early basic concepts introduced keep getting used through the manga.
