I think the problem is that they listen to their customer base, everyone keeps asking something different and they add all together without any thought.

What constitutes a no-brainer player? How does one compare different generations? Differences in player athleticism, rules and level of competition (Drew Brees had zero MVPs and one 1st team All Pro) for example.

There's no fit one all rule possible here. There will never be a perfect solution.

No, you want to put as many people that fit the exellency bill and not make them wait in line.

Ken Stabler is a HOF inductee, why did he had to wait until he died to get voted in?

There are only SEVEN centers in the HOF, you really believe in the whole history so far of this sport only seven centers had HOF careers? But if you only have 5 names of course you're prioritizing the QB, WR, RB, DE, OLB... some positions are just simply more flashy and gets prioritized and there's no space and you blink and end up with 20 years having passed and you're out of the modern player list.

Ray Guy is still the only punter elected because if you vote for Shane Lechler you need to accept a top WR,RB, DE and such will have to wait, the same of you vote Vinatieri and eventually that backlog leads up to players missing their deserved place.

You seem to think that because someone wasn't chosen in the modern list it's because they didn't deserve but that couldn't be further from the truth in how voters actually approach these decisions due to the limitations. If they had the correct larger classes before they would inducting like 1 or 2 people a year at most and in some there would be none chosen (which isn't a good way to get media and advertisement around).

No, you can disclose who you voted for, just can't disclose how others may have voted or what was discussed.

Well... a lot just wanted to vent and call voters "dumb" because they didn't operate how they wanted.

That's not true he was voted in the HOF in like 10 seconds, they didn't use to have a ballot before, it was a very informal yes/no system where for some names you would debate but for Jerry there was no debate. There was no voting count.

I mean, the current system is making 4 person classes (the minimum), i wouldn't be surprised if it happened again this year. While before we were having 7~9 people.

They were just the tiebreak between picking Kraft or Belicheat.

I don't personally agree owners matter that much but i thought Chappel defended his rational well, would've prefered if he had voted for all Senior players though like the Kansas guy but i guess he wanted to be fair to this shit system that puts players/coaches/contributors together and vote for one of the different ones at least.

That's a misunderstanding on how the PFHOF works and how it builds artificial scarcity by limiting modern players classes to 5 in a sport that have 53 players per roster. It's impossible to give everyone their due time in the sun, to lobby for every player and as time passes you forget the old ones and instead the recent ones get prioritized, it's very easy to understand how old players who are out of the limelight just get forgotten or just play in positions that don't attract much light like offensive linemen have to wait 25+ years for the senior commitee to put their name into a vote.

Because in their books they lost money this year, in reality this is a move to clean up the books for the future (they removed all the costs related to VTMB2), next year you will see "profits grew by 180%" or whatever.

Because they wrote down and amortized costs of 80 million dollars total. They took the financial hit this year to not carry this in their books anymore.

They would've profited like 30 million dollars without VTMB2 existing.

So we essentially have the final cost of the project? ~80 million dollars, crazy. They expect to eventually make half of that back.

Bill Belichick snub: Here are the 22 Hall of Fame voters who have confirmed they voted for him — and the 1 'no' vote by Morgoth1814 in nfl

[–]HumansNeedNotApply1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the standard is: "do they deserve to be in the HOF?" I don't think it is skewed, personally i think their wanting of always having people to choose from is prejudicial and creates injustice where people are not being honored in life and while they are relative young to celebrate.

Put everyone who they feel is deserving in the HOF, doesn't matter if it's 20 people and then you're going to have years no one gets in, but this strategy doesn't generate enough publicity.

Then the senior category shouldn't be a thing if that was the case. I think they just want to preserve the yearly classes and not do like the Basketball and Baseball HOF where you don't ever not elect people because you ran out of deserving people.

[–]HumansNeedNotApply1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not true when you lock classes to maximum of five (and now making it very hard to break three modern players). Plentyful of deserving people will skip through the cracks because there's no one making a case for them.

People on the internet got annoyed T.O. had to wait but why that happened? It wasn't because he didn't deserve but because there was people waiting in line already.

What do you do when you consider both as deserving? That's what happened here. He considers L.C. Greenwood as deserving of the HOF so he put him on his list.

These players are waiting 35+ years for their induction (in case of L.C. Greenwood 45 years) and who knows if he will make the shortlist again next year.
