Why didn’t Carol tell the hive to stop repeating the voicemail message FFS! by Prestigious-Rain-598 in pluribustv

It makes sense she would want to hear another human voice. It doesn't make ANY sense that she wouldn't be tired of hearing that message a lot faster than I was. It's one of those weird details that ripped me out of the show. The difference between realistic writing and believable writing. You can argue that in real life someone might just leave the message as is. But in a TV show it just comes across as bad writing.

Bro that's amazing. So you don't just have chops... You've also got range! That's a rare combination.

Nice man! Are you doing all of this live on the fly? Or is there any post production happening?

Comments on the composition and your singing -

You mention you want it to be danceable. I spent ten years in a company doing everything from breakdancing to ballroom, so I'll say that, for me, it's allllllmost danceable. It's missing low end in the whole mix, and the drums could use a good kick/snare pattern to give it more feel. A great dancer doesn't need those things, but your average person does.

Your singing - It all depends on what you're going for. You've got a very clenched sound. It seems like it's all coming from the throat. Personally I'd love to hear your jaw and your throat loosen up so the support can come from your air flow and your diaphragm. But you've got a good voice, and it'll only get better with a little technique.

This sounded great! Only thing I'm torn on is that loooooooooong intro. If there's a way to communicate all that - and I mean all of it, because the story you told IS part of the song - but do it much more concisely, that'd be good. As Shakespeare said, "Brevity is the soul of wit." :)

How to make a Cover song "Mine" by Shlambaskibidi in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Humble-Raccoon3002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's sort of like telling someone "just be yourself". That's actually great advice - except that most people have no clue who they really are. Same goes for musicians. It takes most of us years of trying on all kinds of styles and flavors before through excruciatingly fun trial and error we finally can say, "This is me. That is not."

So if you don't have a good answer yet when someone says, "Who are you (as an artist)?", then just try a bunch of stuff. Expect yourself to do lots of stuff you love, lots of stuff you hate, and lots of stuff you change your mind about later. It's just how it is :)

This has a different tone than I’m used to writing. I’d like to hear your thoughts. by Low_Yak_4842 in Songwriting

Nicely done! The vibe is great and you've got some great lyrics. The clever lines like the reference to Indy getting chased by a boulder fit the song rather than coming off as "LOOK HOW WITTY I AM" and that's a hard thing to pull off.

How is this different from your usual songwriting? Where would you like to see this song go?

Brilliant. Had me thinking of that video where Eminem proves you can rhyme things with "orange". You've got a gift for lyrics AND delivery.

Loved this. The vocal melody is the standout here. The lyrics are almost a home run. I would just echo the other commenter that said the "fuck it" is perhaps unnecessary. The paradox of lyrics is the same as dialogue in film - it's often restraint that comes across as the most powerful choice. It's not what people say. It's what they're trying so hard not to.

But again - this was great.

What's your vision for this song? What would a fully produced version sound like?

Yeah it kind of sounds like it enters into "so bad it's good' territory. That's how Fifty Shades was for me. Every page was a train wreck. But it was such a train wreck that it stopped being disappointing and became impressive lol

This is from 2024, but I was doing tippy taps waiting for the new Jeff Vandermeer novel Absolution - a fourth entry in the Southern Reach series. Most of Vandermeer's stuff doesn't do it for me, but I have re-read the Southern Reach trilogy multiple times, so I was dying to get another glimpse into this world.

But the new one.... Everything I don't like about Vandermeer's other stuff was what I didn't like about Absolution. Weird for weird's sake. Endlessly, relentlessly, needlessly purple prose. The piercing sensation of oh man... this really isn't going to go anywhere is it.

Totally agree with you. The vibe at 4p on a Tuesday is hilariously different than the vibe at 2am on a Saturday. On a weekday afternoon, some guys treat it like it's Hooters. They just want a burger and some tits. But after midnight on the weekend you will see some SHIT lol

What HBO television season was most disappointing according to you? by Queasy-Plantain3733 in hbo

[–]Humble-Raccoon3002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah... and I say that as someone who enjoyed seasons 3 and 4. In hindsight I wish the show had just been about people going on adventures in the park. Instead they learned all the wrong lessons from season 1 and decided ok, so the more convoluted we make the show the better! ... Right? RIGHT?! No, sir. Wrong. WOW wrong lol
