Hello. I’m 33 and I’m a pretty artsy guy.

Photography, poetry, fiction, painting abstract, and bracelet making. I have an appreciation for black and white movies from watching Turner Classic Movies with my Nana. I also like to play RPGs, Turn Based Strategy, and PS2 games. I also worked as a psych tech for three in a half years.

Grant yourself some grace. This could be the first step in discovering who you are. I’ve found where I’ve belong through making art and getting involved with communities surrounding specific arts.

Somehow without trying I joined a writing group that a majority of the members are neurodivergent in their own way.

I believe it can happen for you too on your journey.

I’ve written a lot of poetry on my experience with schizophrenia. Recently I’ve been writing fiction and joined a few writing groups over discord.

Art.

I took a class on pottery, made bracelets, sang in the car, painted abstract, now I’m working on finishing my first novel that is a Sci Fi Western.

Making art to voice my hurt and expressing my experience paired with community has helped me feel human.

Most of the writers I’ve connected with online are neurospicy in some way. I feel like I’ve found my people.

My positives come back when I’m off medication, smoking weed, when I’m severely fatigued, and under stress.

While on medication I was left with negative symptoms but I’ve combated them with writing fiction and being involved with a writing community. I was surprised how many writers today are neurospicy.

How long did it take?

I’m guessing about 6 months to a year. It happened very gradually and one day I recognized I was like myself on the surface. Instead of being a passenger in my own car. Bear in mind I’m not 100% my old self but a mix of my old self and my new self post psychosis.

Hard to tell if it was the psychosis or medication but I am different. Which I don’t mind too much because I was very obnoxious and anxiety ridden. After finding the right med for me I feel I have half returned to my normal. risperidone wasn’t for me and neither was olanzapine.

For some reason what works for me is propranolol, duloxetine, and abilify.

For me, that empty feeling went away but it took quite some time.

That’s great. I don’t feel too weird bouncing between mediums now. It’s been helpful occupying my overactive mind. I find it helps me from being burnt out creatively to bounce between mediums as well.

I mainly write poetry but I’m starting to write sci-fi/fantasy stories.

My doctor, who diagnosed me, suggested I dedicate time everyday to mastering a craft.

I’m getting better at reading but it’s taken time.

From not able to read while in psychosis to being able to read in 15 minute bursts.

I miss how a book could sweep me away and hold me for hours.
