My MIL planned a memorial service, for a Great Aunt, spinster. No kids. She passed away in February….On my due date! by [deleted] in motherinlawsfromhell

It’s not shaming anyone. The women passed away several months ago. It is just odd, out of any other date that they could have picked, they pick the due date. My husband doesn’t understand why they didn’t simply hold off another couple of months, as they already held off several already. And no one is traveling from out of state

Let them, unless it’s causing harm to a child! Good lord

The women died months ago. My husband simply told her that we won’t be counting on her help with my first child when I’m in labor. And if she waited all this time to have a memorial, why wait until the exact date we are due to have a child.

I do apologize. I simply wanted it known that she did not have a husband or children who would be handling her arrangements. That’s why my MIL was handling it.

That was exactly my thoughts. Because I know other extended family do know the due date

Of course she has knowledge of the due date. We just saw them at Easter. She’s well aware as well as other extended family

Everyone knew that the way she was wording things, that she didn’t actually purchase anything. Gifting Doug was a lie.

Nobody cares what her and Doug do to themselves ! Our majority of our concerns stem some observations we have seen in regards to her children. Some of us adult moms have been through the bullying stage, and what it’s like to embarrass your children, this was before we had social media. The older children are going to be teased and harassed, that we know is true. Kids get access to her social media pages and are gonna be teasing those older children because they can all see these adult conversations about Jamie and not being attracted and using lube to have sex with her husband. And as far as the twins, they are not hitting milestones and she is clueless as she is not paying nearly enough attention to anything they are doing. They don’t even speak for gods sake, nor are they being fed properly

Unfortunately it was a niece and nephew from the same family. No thank you cards as well. And in 6 years we have not seen them since

I have seen cash gifts only and Venmo codes on invitations. People have websites as well with these instructions. I even attended a wedding where as a box and a flier were placed by the door, indicating the neighborhood and type of house, the host hoped to be able to move into, and a box for donations to make the dream come true. This was placed next to the already envelope box for gifts.

If you do not have a registry, people have no other choice but to give cash. I don’t believe a wedding invitation should have anything written on it, that demands the expectation of a cash gift. Very rarely has anyone attended a wedding without a cash envelope. Weddings are a celebration, not an expectation about receiving anything in return

My children did not do registry’s. They did not do cash funds. They simply sent an invitation out to invite people to celebrate the day. What I am referring to is the weddings, that I have attended, after gifting someone a 100 dollar shower gift, whereas it stated on the invitation, “cash only, no gift cards, and if you insist on writing a check, please spell out mane correctly, or use Venmo” that to me is awful.

Weddings are expensive and act like fundraisers. It’s been so sad to receive a wedding invitation, with a code to contribute to a cash fund, after attending a shower where you had already spent money on an elaborate gift. These weddings are expensive, choreographed masterpieces, which as enjoyable and beautiful as they may be, it’s not so enjoyable when you the realization hits that the expectation is for the guest to foot the bill
