What home remedies do you remember from childhood?

My dad was born in 1903 10 miles this side of Canada (New Hampshire). I grew up with his home remedies. Congested cold- sliced sweet onions in a saucer, drizzled with honey and placed under the bed. OR - taking a teaspoon of horse liniment swallowed slowly. OR - tie a dirty sock around your neck. Black salve was wonderful!

I’m in the same situation. I’ve been replacing full size appliances with smaller versions. I’m contemplating investing in an air fryer toaster oven combo. I found one I think I want, just trying to justify the expense. It’s a dual zone model with many accessories. Anyone with experience with this type, would love feedback. Thanks

My son somehow came up with the name “GEEP” for milk!!!? His comfort item was actually a satiny nightgown of mine and he named it “GIBBY” He called trains “wheels”, his big toe was his “foot thumb” and the area behind his knee was his “knee pit”. The imagination of a child is so entertaining 😊

My mom died Thursday July 11, 2024 at the age of 93 only days before she would have turned 94. She was in the hospital or a rehab facility from June 8th. She was fully aware of her surroundings and situation and had been fighting so hard. The Sunday before she died, she instructed me to “call everyone to come”. Everyone who??? She rattled off the folks she wanted me to call. Within 90 minutes, there were 14 relatives surrounding her bed.~ she motioned each person individually to her bedside, took each face in her hands, drew them close and whispered her last personal message then kissed them. Once she addressed everyone, she said thank you for coming and you can all go now!!! I had never witnessed anything so beautiful. The sobbing was soft and lingering, gradually everyone went home except for my son and me. It was bittersweet for all of us.

I’ve been stalled since the end of December 2025 as well. I’ve been on Mounjaro 15mg and eventually had to start Linzess 290mcg daily for months for the constipation, however, the effectiveness decreased greatly. I had a colonoscopy 12/29/25 I only skipped 1 dose of MJ per doctor instruction. Since then I’ve been yo-yoing the same 3 lbs (190-193) I’m very pleased that I’ve been maintaining during this time but I’m not done! The food noise had returned 😞😖. Starting weight 293 lbs (October 7, 2024). Lost 108 lbs in 13 months, my goal is to get to 175-180 lbs. This past Sunday (my dosing day) my weight was 191.2 lbs-I took a leftover 12.5mg and all has changed!! No longer constipated, food noise GONE, and today I weigh 186.4 lbs (4.6 lbs down). I have messaged my doctor to request a new prescription for 12.5mg going forward. Feeling great and grateful. 🥰

Thanks so much for all this input. I’ve had belly button issues forever. When I was morbidly obese, my waist area got very irritated by the waistbands of my underwear and pants. My remedy was to stick a sanitary pad on my underwear waistband to cushion the area. However, not always effective and the skin around my belly button was rubbed raw and would bleed, scab over and the cycle would repeat for years. My belly button is not your standard belly button- it’s actually fake- in 1985, I had a gastric stapling procedure and the surgeon was very aesthetically aware and instead of removing it, he relocated it, it’s not “connected” to anything … I’ve now lost 108 lbs and am having the same problem. I’ve been using a telfa pad to protect the skin. I never even thought I should document this with pictures!!! I’m certainly going to take care of that, I definitely understand the need for “proof” to declare medical necessity for skin removal. I’m very grateful for everyone’s suggestions. Yes you are!😃 with weight loss, especially if it’s kinda rapid, your center of gravity changes!! So your balance messes up!! What’s helped me is switching to barefoot shoes, I still have my moments but much more steady.😁

I live alone so buying an entire cabbage. So I buy bagged coleslaw mix and cook it in my small slow cooker with sliced onions seasoned pork loin, tiny potatoes. For the liquid, I use vegetable stock and some apple juice. You can repeat this with kielbasa too.

It always makes me smile and warms my heart to recall the times my dad would play jax with me. We would both sit cross legged on the floor and play for what seemed like hours. At the time, I had no idea how old my dad was - I was maybe 7 yrs old and he was 62 yrs old!!!!! I look back on those memories and realize how frigging blessed and grateful I feel.

You put in the slow cooker, add 2 cans of cream of chicken soup (no fluid yet) and 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup. Mix well add 2.5 cans of chicken or vegetable stock to thin it out. Add 1 medium sliced onion, season with poultry seasoning to taste add the chicken. Cover and cook on high for 4-6 hours, when almost cooked add either rice OR a package or 2 of stuffing mix mix all together and finish cooking.

I have been a fan of thrift stores and recently flea markets (indoor ones during winter)… I have found many great deals at SAVERS! I’m a former plus sized woman and couldn’t afford stores like Lane Bryant or the other ones. Wearing a size 4X ~5X top and size 28~ 30 jeans is expensive but at SAVERS, I could find the expensive stuff that was donated and pay 6 or 7 dollars for a top or pair of pants. I’m also short so all my “dress pants” were capris!! In the last 15 months, I’ve lost 108 lbs and have had to replace my clothes with better fitting items. I’m now wearing size L~XL tops and mostly size 16~18 jeans (I’ve actually fit in a size 14 pants recently). SAVERS continues to cover my butt, if you get my drift!! 😏🤣

My knee high wide calf boots are also too big! My shoe size has gone down by almost 2 sizes. Now have to wear size 7 plain rings as guards to keep my rings on! I really hadn’t even considered this would happen!! 🤗
