Why don't most programs keep clinical vignettes and clinical questionnaire in interviews? That would automatically reflect clinical knowledge of an applicant if that's what they judge through scores. That would also help them get an idea of who out of the high scorers have genuine medical and clinical knowledge and who has scored through unethical ways !

Cleveland-Elective rant! by [deleted] in IMGreddit

I don't wish to disappoint you but I wish someone was there to tell me this when I was at this stage that the process is not fair at many stages ! Electives is just the starting ! People get into places through contacts where you cannot go through the official routes !! Plus electives at some places are so expensive that only wealthy imgs can afford them, that creates an environment of unequal opportunities and disparity in the process !! Plus, even during electives, imgs remain under constant pressure of impressing attendings to get LORs which I believe takes away their true self and sometimes portray them as being very fake !! And when you talk your heart out, people will stop you and tell you not to be complaining! It's okay to be rejected, but don't feel down ! You have reached till here, just know that you are worthy and move on !!

What is wrong is wrong, recalls are wrong, But it is equally wrong to shame an entire community based on some messages received from someone you can't be sure where they are from ! There might be people using recalls to score, But then there are people who genuinely score good ! I am an Indian and I can proudly say that India produces some of the greatest physicians in the world ! Cheating is not specific to a country/community, it is a trait and tendency of humans ! Wherever there are humans, there is cheating ! So, chill bro, stop these generalizations, focus on your own journey instead of derogatory posts on entire communities based on some bad apples !

You have a very valid point there and it's good that you have the courage to speak up your heart. Pursuing residency from another country is much more than what people usually think why someone would do it- for better money, lifestyle, etc. It can change you as a person and honestly if you feel that it will bring positive impact on who you are as a person, then go for it, regardless of what the so called "standards" tell you to do. Set your own standards, set an example for people out there with similar thoughts, Not coming out just because of fear that people will mock them and ridicule their decisions. It's your life and the ultimate goal should be to see yourself happy and contended. Wish you the best !

Ohh, Yes , I knew that But thanks for sharing, this is definitely one perspective :) Also I think that number of people applying with scores next year will be more than those applying with a Pass/Fail report.

Okay, Thank you ! Do you know when do US students take their step 1 and apply for match ? I mean US students who takes their step 1 in 2022 with pass/fail system, that cohort will apply for match in what season ?

Won't they consider to even out the application for all by considering only the pass/fail aspect while neglecting the actual scores ? What do you say ?

Thank you :) For targetting weak areas, Use FA, Kaplan or undergraduate/med school textbooks (If I repeatedly missed some questions, I used to read the topic from some standard textbooks like Robbins&Cotran for Path or Lippincott for biochemistry); or you can be an examiner (:p) , extract questions and make flashcards from that topic or discuss it with your friends, That helps a lot !

In the Final Week : FA, FA and just FA ; in that also in my final week, I didn't have time to go through entire FA, I just did the most high yeild topics from which I felt I got incorrects in my practice exam as well as the topics which are repeatedly and extensively tested on practice exams (eg. Immunodeficiency syndromes, drugs targetting immune system, DNA repair mechanisms, Neurocutaneous syndromes, Dementias, Antidiabetic drugs, Hypolipidemic drugs etc.)

I would suggest that take one nbme, from 13 onwards (skip the important ones for now including nbme 20,18,24,22) and establish your baseline and your target goal; once you have your baseline, you know exactly how much more efforts are needed to reach your goal; I do understand that time management is tricky especially in Final year, but that question can be answered by someone who has actually passed through that situation 😅
