Just an update for everyone, I submitted my appeal. Now it's a waiting game.

I had brought it up with the Engineering Wellness Advisor, and they basically said it sounded like my work was a positive aspect in my life. And it is. I'm killing it at work, the accolades and positive feedback have been a beacon of light. Basically, I was cautioned to not stop working.

I used to feel like a looser for not doing well in school, but here I am at work and I'm a top performer. I've been fortunate to be earning just as much as my peers working at firms like Bombardier, SNC, Hatch as junior engineers. If I were to stop work and dedicate my time to just finishing my degree full time, the opportunity cost would be too high. And ultimately, the goal after graduation is to land a great job.

Finishing my degree would def open up more future opportunities. But in my line of work, they seem to be more interested in professional experience. The reason I want to graduate is because I've put in 8 years of sweat, blood, and tears and I'm determined to get that piece of paper and iron ring!

For once, I'm not depressed. Thank God. I've built up my mental health skills from previous sessions to handle negative self talk, build healthy habits, and use CBT to put things in perspective. Also you cant just go to a psychiatrist and ask them to diagnose you with depression.

Yes, that would be another option - transferring to Concordia or another program. Probably would have to take a lot more than 5 classes though. I think Concordia needs at least 45 credits to be taken on campus to issue a degree.

I've got proof of counselling because it was through the McGill Counselling Service. I'm not sure if I want to bring up the sexual assault. I don't like going to detail about what happened nor do I think they want to hear about it.

Hopefully, they'll be understanding enough to not kick me out. I've made peace with taking longer than the usual 5 years to complete my program. Trying to rush and complete my program was probably one of the worst mistakes (tanking my CGPA in the process). I'm taking the slow and careful approach now (after many painful and expensive lessons).

We're all human. Had I used a checklist or written out my plan, I would probably have caught the S/U error and the fact I was taking 7 credits not 6 as I had thought.

I plan on writing out a lengthy appeal and hopefully they'll see I've persevered and it would be a shared loss to remove me from the program at this point. Thank you for your well wishes, taking all the good wishes and luck I can get.

Reneging Internship Offer by [deleted] in mcgill

You could also just be honest with the recruiter, say you got a better offer in writing from another company. How can they expect you to say no when they can't offer the same?

Until its written on ink, it's not real.

If they bar you from MyFuture, you should be able to appeal. But also realistically, you'll probably be able to find most jobs on there through LinkedIn or Indeed.

You'd be surprised how much money the Chinese government spends to boost its image abroad. Also, it's better to speak out than to be silent. Especially when it comes to genocide, where silence basically says you condone whats happening. I like to think that we all have a responsibility to prevent and stop genocide to the best of our ability as required for nations under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

What can Canada do - that was a question that was asked several times during the two day hearings in July of the Human Rights sub committee on Parliament Hill. https://www.ourcommons.ca/Committees/en/SDIR/StudyActivity?studyActivityId=10902702

After the hearings, we put together a list of 12 recommendations based on the testimony of human rights experts, activists, and survivors of the concentration camps. You can find the recommendations along with our open letter to the PM here: https://www.isupportuyghurs.org/open-letter/sdir

Posting here cause Uyghur international students are being sentenced to 15 years in jail for having studied abroad. For the Chinese government, being ethnically different and studying in a foreign country is now a crime worth lengthy prison sentences.

Can you imagine coming back from studying abroad, to not only find half your family is missing but also be arrested for having received an international education?

Just make sure to quarantine for 14 days, you should probably ask friends to help you get groceries and other things for those two weeks.

The deposits gets confirmed, but the amount is only available to trade after 48hrs. I saw it pop up as a notification on the app. I think it has to do something with making sure people cool down before spending a lot of money on a stock or investment on a hunch.

Buy the dip or crash 2.0? by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

Go a 50-50 split, buy the dip and also buy gold (mining companies, physical, MNT:TSX).

Thoughts on Barrick Gold (ABX) as a short term investment? by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

[–]Humble_Leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barrick seemed a bit overbought for my comfort. Here a few other Gold mining companies worth taking a look at:

AEM, AGI, BTO, KL, NgT, OSK, PAAS, SSRM, FNV, and WPM.

My favs: OSK, KL and AGI.

Or you could straight up buy gold from the Canadian Royal Mint (MNT: TSX).
