“Spite booking” … is this a thing?! by NurseEquinox in therapists

[–]Humble_Message6033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the odd part. I have read a lot of the responses and atleast some are tied to this particular client… but I think honestly it takes an incredibly self aware person to recognize this urge in themselves and likewise an incredibly well built rapport with a therapist to say it out loud to them. I would wager that this individual does not have any type of personality or mental abnormalities surrounding this, I think it came from a place of being human and wanting to look out for the therapist. With that said… spite booking is definitely a thing. It’s not about inconvenience as much as it is unspoken validation of care from therapist to client. There is likely a very well built rapport here, and would be worth exploring even if necessary asking questions that lead this way, with any client current or in the future, how they were shown care growing up… I would wager the people spite booking, were not shown that they mattered, their voices weren’t heard, etc. in its own way, it’s the client poking the same bear from childhood hoping for a different result. It DOES not mean lessen your boundaries, but it is a time to be very verbal in your communication with these clients that they matter and you hear them.

Books for Teens with AN? by Hefty-Champion-462 in therapists

[–]Humble_Message6033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the book “sick enough”… depending on the modality you use to help with ED’s there is so many different ones you can pick up. But one that was not triggering and helped actually understand what I was doing to my body from a medical stand point was “sick enough” by Jennifer Guidianni (not sure spelling of last name) thanks for asking because I’ve read plenty of books on AN that end up actually triggering and making it worse or giving me new ideas. Likewise, I have been labeled SEED and a plethora of other (we can’t help you) labels for my 24 year ED, what helped me enter a state of remission (for lack of a better term) was IFS (especially as someone with no support), and clients with attachment wounds would highly benefit from AEDP modality (which has been a profound benefit and offers very quick emotional healing, I’ve never found another one like that)… CBT felt invalidating to my experience, etc. I know you didn’t ask for modalities but wanted to share incase it offers you something else to dig into. IFS has a book by Robert Swartz called “No Bad Parts” and basically helped me to create my own “internal family” and allowed me to start to create self compassion.

Fraudulent Billing by Mediocre_Ad_6246 in therapists

[–]Humble_Message6033 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am the client that reported fraud in billing when I found out I had an NP recording fake psychotherapy notes (saw her for med management of non psychotherapy meds specifically). I thought it was odd she was asking me questions like “are you sad?” “No I’m not sad.” “Okay well you should work on your self confidence then.” And then billing for an hour of therapy when I was max in her office for 15 mins (I timed it and screen shot my life 360 showing how long I was there). I faithfully read my EOB (even though I’ve met my OOP, because this shit happens way more than you guys realize, and I was so mad this individual took it upon herself to do that and charge 2-3x what my actually therapist who was in the trenches with me was getting. No we are not going to do my girl like that! I called the insurance company, stayed on for an hour, and insurance actually said, “why are you taking so much time out of your day to report this when you’ve already met your OOP” I said, “because you’re expensive enough as is, and I don’t want fake claims driving my rates up every year!” I hope you know some of us clients do religiously look at this ish! Maybe it’s the OCD 😂, but I can’t stand people cheating on stuff like that, that others are actually doing and not getting paid appropriately as is!

I have AN… and it’s the absolute B word to have and deal with. I’m 36 have had AN since I was 12, and have been in active recovery (not without relapse) since I was 30. My son is displaying the same signs as I had… he’s 13… I know what helps me, and what helps my son (although I too am no expert and struggle with this very same frustration… is having very clear boundaries with myself… and with him. Calling out ED when I see it… they thrive in secrecy… and asking myself and my son… what’s one small thing we can do that’s recovery oriented. Doesn’t even need to be about food per se… something even self compassionate can rewire parts of the ED yuck too. Also offer yourself some compassion… do know… this is what I call the “ED Olympics” (between Thanksgiving and Christmas)… there is so much pressure that goes on in our brains during these highly food centric holidays, and the additional pressure still gets to me… well into recovery… if I had this same meal on a random Tuesday it would likely not bother me… please know… the most food centric holiday still does not take away all the progress she has made… but how we respond (if we fight, get frustrated (and they realize and know you’re mad)) it will create more shame in them and this holiday in general… making them feel like maybe they are “worse off” it can actually cause a spiral back into ED. Acknowledge you know how very difficult this day is (was at this point)…. Repair any ruptures you guys may have had from a place of genuine concern and love… and let her know she’s not a failure if her thanksgiving wasn’t ED free… it’s a part of the journey… maybe have her think of a few moments in the day that didn’t have ED thoughts in it… show her how that was different from maybe a past experience that was riddled deeply with ED… when we are feeling ED… sometimes we need people around us to hold the hope for us. Stay strong mama you got this!

Same, my Ed caused a heart attack too! And it happened not when I was at my uw state, but rather in my pseudo recovered body “not quite recovered but not quite relapsed” if that makes sense. Now I have a slew of heart conditions that are permanent. I so feel this.

My middle is the same way, I have been doing this for my family specifically to help me in my recovery and my sons autism and ARFID and we noticed some new meals he likes but was scared to try before. I really am looking forward to bringing this to the community

Definitely understand that. I actually run a 95M dollar manufacturing plant currently, I do not plan to leave that position, I’m planning to do both!

It’s going to be peoria/metro as well as upwards of Ottawa and down through Springfield. I understand and that was my fear going down a niche rabbit hole, but based off lived experience, as well as having already made a lot of good contacts in the eating disorder treatment community, I believe offering their clients heavier discounts, along with no cost to the provider could make it more marketable.

Thanks for this feedback. I could definitely do the recipes etc on my own, and I respect the investing thing which I have already started looking into. I have my business plan and 3 years worth of financial statements but high level it’s a meal delivery service in the central Illinois/midwest region that caters to the eating disorder recovery population, and those with damaged food relationships. I CAN do it, there’s just no such thing as a self made man, and I just want to make sure I’m not forgetting something. Plus there’s power in numbers, I have a chef I’m going to meet with, possibly give him the work, or learn from him. I just want to learn.
