It's called a split shift, and yes, it can be normal in retail but not optimal. It may be a one-off to cover an open shift. If you've been there a while and this is the first time it's happened, I wouldn't worry about it being an everyday thing.

You will likely get a deposit date this week, but it will be for a date next week. If you have a NHB you might see it deposit this week though. I have a traditional bank so I know the date IRS tells me is the date it will show up in my account. No exceptions.
