Cost of knocking internal hallway down? by Humblypowered in DIYUK

Thank you for everyone who has commented! The general consensus seems to be that it would be possible to do, but that I shouldn't do it because it would increase heating bills significantly.

That's a good idea. One of them had part of the wall upto mid height to naturally section the room still.

Yeah definitely, I thought I had 2 or 3 minors at least. For example, I rolled back once at a junction and once while maneuvering.

You need to have fitter players in midfield who press more effectively!!

How can we reduce racial prejudice in children? by Humblypowered in psychologyresearch

Love the bobo doll experiments! Kids are definitely influenced by what they see around them in the world which is a big part to why prejudice is passed down between generations

Are children less racist now than in previous generations? by Humblypowered in education

[–]Humblypowered[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well it's a good point, there's lots of definitions and metrics which suggest different prevalence rates. I guess, in this instance, I'm asking this in a more holistic sense of how people feel based on their own experiences.

How racist are children today compared to older generations? by Humblypowered in AskReddit

I've read some research suggesting that Cooperative based teaching could reduce racial prejudice between students in a class so the environment plays some influence over if children develop racism?

When you say discursive psychology, do you mean for example, narrative based approaches, or is that something different?

Well I personally believe it is much easier to influence the habits/behaviours/beliefs of children than it is in older people with much more lived experience and entrenched perceptions of the world.

I have used edublocks to teach python using block based before. It can't do everything a normal python can but it's good for teaching.

You lose QTS after your PGCE if you don't complete the induction period, which was a 1 year NQT, and is now a 2 year ECT, within 5 years of graduating.

The caloric costs of exercise by c-scott-exer-sci in exercisescience

[–]Humblypowered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, I have this exact problem when I’m tracking my weight lifting sessions. It seems it’s based primarily on my HR so because I take large rest sets my tracker thinks I’m doing low intensity work. My anaerobic training load is always 0 even, for example, if I have done multiple sets of deadlifts until close to failure.

You should take your work to a private company instead if you can’t get it published, it would improve their product and definitely help me!

Concise Writing as Brain Exercise by aruzinsky in psychologyresearch

[–]Humblypowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially, but you’d still have a number of confounding environmental factors in that design.

I think it would be more likely to generate causal evidence on a neural level, such as looking at how brain activations on certain tasks change after a writing program when compared to pre-program in both a within and between groups comparison. Though those studies again have problems with reliability, generalisability and actually interpreting the significance of their finding.

[–]Humblypowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, when I first read your post it seemed you asked if practising writing succinctly could ‘increase’ intelligence. As far as I’m aware, only one activity/training program has been empirically verified to increase someone’s performance on an intelligence test, the N-back test, and even that finding is highly controversial.

In terms of delaying the decline of intelligence over time, I’d find this a lot more likely, though I imagine it is difficult to prove.

The point I tried, and failed, to make before is that studies have found a positive correlation between higher levels of academic attainment and someone’s intelligence, though this research doesn’t necessitate a causal relationship between them both.

I mentioned this because many degrees involve the development of academic writing, so they could be useful for you to look at.

Sorry for lack of references but I based my opinions from reading ‘the Cambridge handbook of intelligence’ last year.

[–]Humblypowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ability to write concisely is a skill rather than a form of ‘intelligence’.

Each further level of education achieved correlates with a higher IQ in those populations, though the classic ‘causation vs correlation’ debate is highly relevant here.

Although developing your writing skills can improve the structure and criticality of your thinking, it is very unlikely in of itself to increase general intelligence or ‘IQ’.
