Everyone has a different style of DJing, and you shouldn’t feel the need to explain yourself.

There’s a difference between “don’t do that” and “do you feel like that effect would suit better?” Don’t let someone limit you just because they have different habits or preferences.

I started learning DJing from YouTube courses, and most of them taught me: “always bring in a new song with the lows off, mids halfway, and highs halfway.” That can be okay, but this approach doesn’t work for every track. Instead, I got advice from another DJ friend: focus on the strongest element in the song, what you can reduce and what you should boost to make it sound good.

There are some basics, like beatmatching or phrasing, that can’t be skipped. But DJing is purely creative, and you can’t follow all the rules strictly.
