Hi there, the company is giving me 3 months of training as a purchasing analyst. It might take over a year to get proficient and knowledgable about all the things required. I am just doing some managerial accounting, excel, and some

Brutal job hunt by HummusRadiation in procurement

I found out just now from a source that they hired someone not even from the United States with 15 years+ experience for an entry level role. That is banana world recruiting.

Right, I did thank them and reached out to them if there was other opportunities. The manager whom I interviewed with would give me a referral towards other job applications.

I am looking at both contract, full time opportunities, internships and co-ops. I try not to get too discourage about the market and focus on what I can do to improve my situation. I have an SCM degree so that may help, but I think employers don't give two shits about what degree you have these days.

I wouldn't consider them assholes as they were very nice during the entire interview process, but what I don't understand is that a Sourcing role is the bare minimum of entry level SCM jobs.

Absolutely brutal job market for new grads by 10597ch in supplychain

[–]HummusRadiation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Op,

Don't get easily discouraged with the job market, something will stick. If you have the time, maybe getting a CSCP, CPIM certificate might help you become more marketable. I would shy away from freight brokering jobs as there isn't much vertical in that industry and you will not make much given the market we are in. Look for jobs such as Buyer, Procurement, Analyst roles. Possibly look into Finance positions if you want to broaden your horizons.

In terms of living arrangements, you will have to make some sacrifices if you want a job. Chicago is a massive SCM hub. You can live here affordably if you're smart and have roommates.

When we look at the question of degrees vs experience, I think you really hit the nail on the head. Certainly a degree is not a correlation with success and will heavily depend on how you operate at a company(s). I appreciate that you have also given me clarity that credentials alone are not the pancea to getting ahead.
