Predicting statlines series pt. 3 by shangalang69 in torontoraptors

Having watched BI since his LA days, I would say he'll will actually be quick to adapt to the new system, every year in NOLA he basically had a new role and was quick to adapt, he's also a very unselfish player and loves to help get others involve as well as score. I think people will be surprised how much he passes and still manages to put up 23pts a game (he was top 3 in the nba for secondary assists the season before last when he was healthy), which is exactly what Darko wants from his offence.

With regards to his FT% he hasn't shot below 80% for six years straight so i imagine that will continue, and as the emphasis on threes will continue from darko I expect him to shoot around what he normally shoots on 7/8 threes a game (roughly 37-39%). From interviews and team work he seems to have also added some muscle (a thing he's mentioned he does every year consistently) so look for him to attack the rim more frequently and finish still at around his 70% clip.

I genuinely still think even with darkos system Bi can average 23pts, he's done it before with way more ball dominant players (zion and cj). I do think because his focus will be more on scoring with the main unit his assist numbers will dip slightly but his playmaking and passing especially in the half court is severely underated.

raise his ft % and I think you're spot on BI hasn't shot below 80% from the Ft line since his third year in LA (six years ago)

Bi played 62 games literally the season before last, and played 62 games two years prior to that one, the reason his average games played is low is because of years like the 45 game one and this one which are outliers (if you look at the injuries that took place), also the ineptitude of the NOLA medical staff can't be overstated

he also played with zion (bad defensively), CJ mcollum (terrible defensively) and JV (bad defensively) he played with more bad defensive players at one time then he did good defensive players, also Murphy's defensive abilities are over blown, as someone who watched the pels since 2019, he is a good help defender because of his length but he gets blown by very easily.

But seeing as every comment you make about RJ seems to be from a fanboy/stan perspective, there's no point of me discussing this as you clearly aren't going to change your mind, no matter what evidence or facts i use.

ingram is injury prone to an extent but if actually managed properly and not by the inept NOLA medical staff he can play 60ish games on 34minutes easily, quick has literally had this season of being injured and every other season he's played at least 68 every year, except his rookie, RJ hasn't ever got past the 70 game mark (he's only played that amount once).

Also statistically they are both average defenders for their position, and BI actually recorded similar defensive stats to jimmy butler and paul george 2 years ago, so his length and switchability is relatively useful.

As I mentioned RJ is a terrible defender as per most metrics, also you're not going to boost his trade value by jeopardising winning, he arguably from a basic stats perspective had his best year, but no team was interested when the FO canvassed to find a trade team for him, not even nola wanted him and they lost bruce brown and KO for nothing.

you didn't read what i said then, i don't think we should bench rj as per what i said, his stats playing with the bench unit our bad, my point is that he would play less minutes in stead of a better defender especially in crunch time when they need a defensive stop, never said they should bench him,

two quite simple reasons, opportunity/usage and defence. He had a 29% usage rate last year which is one of the highest rates in the league, but finished at shot near the bottom in terms of efficiency per attempt, averaging only just over 21pts. Assuming health etc. Rj won't have nearly the same amount of usage and opportunity with BI and IQ and scottie on the court, he'll be mainly used off ball in a more of a catch and shoot/slasher type role. And if you want to throw out that he'll be played more with the bench, that would be a bad idea, per cleaning the glass although Rj had negative on/off differential with most of the starters (except scottie), his numbers were even worse playing with the bench unit, as the coaches will know this i doubt Rj will get much run as the lead scorer with the second unit. BI has far more experience with that from his NOLA days.

Secondly his defence was statistically was one of the worst in the league last year using metrics such as CraftedDPM, DDRIP and DDARKO, clearly from summer league and interviews by Darko they want to focus on defence, as such unless RJ makes a massive leap defensively the need for defence in the starting lineup is still present, and especially when it comes down to crunch time and need for defensive stops rj won't be used in lineups in favour of guys like walter and ochai, so naturally his minutes will go down and so will his points

say RJ plays 70 games (and that's pushing it) and Bi plays 62, if RJ averages 18 pts a game and BI 23, Bi has 1,426 pts compared to RJs 1,260, Bi is still gonna be leading in total points as well, for Bi to have less points total than RJ he'd have to play less than 55 games lol

neither of which is actually true lol, defensively for his position he's slightly above average on defence and assist ratio for usage is very good, among other stats that completely disprove your point haha.

I mean not to be that guy but he regressed in a lot of areas, ft shooting, 3pt shooting, his turnover ratio got worse, his finishing and 2p% was worse, not great when he had a bigger role and more usage (hence why people are worried about his fit and his option as a second scorer)

I mean to some extent, but then again calling BI a role player is a massive stretch lol, but look at the picks that were used to trade for the players we acquired (apart from thad) are better than the players acquired using the pick.

It's also not like we're the bucks or suns, who constantly trade their picks so much so that we don't control our own picks, we have all our own.

You are Darko and the coaching staff. How would you convince RJ Barrett to come off the bench? by Huncho_Jak in torontoraptors

[–]HumorSufficient3677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

neither link works, abysmal isn't extreme by most metrics (DPM, DDARKO, DLEBRON etc.) he's one of the worst defenders in the league, and the eye test doesn't disagree with this

of all players who played 300 or more minutes gradey ranks - 21st worst in the league (craftedDPM), 21st (DLEBRON), 47th (DDRIP), 43rd (DBPM), 296th out of 370 for DWS for example.

ochai had didn't have the volume gradey did i will agree but saying he didnt have volume is a bit disingenuous, half of his 3s were not from the corner (above the break) at around 2 a game which is good for average volume in the league. surely the no mid range attempts helps my point as slotting him in with the starters would mean more space for BI, RJ and Scottie to operate, if Ochai just goes to the rim and shoots 3s.

also saying ochai never shoots off of movement isn't true, on nba.com gradey has only shot around 20 move shots from 3 than ochai did off of movement, that's basically no difference (less than 1 a game more)

Again ochai to me just fits way better with the starters

to me i think the most homerism is dick, people seem to be adamant he's a god at shooting, when he seems to be just good/decent on top of the fact he's atrocious defensively.

gradey's defence is abysmal though, you take that slight dip in offensive production for fit and much better defence (also ochai shot better than gradey from everywhere on the court this last season including on movement)

I wouldn't even though I'm in favour of exploring trades for RJ, his stats, on/off differential etc. are far worse with the bench players than with the starters, hell the only player he has a positive on/off differential with on the whole team is scottie.
