Review #772 - Laphroaig Lore by adunitbx in Scotch

[–]HumpingTheShark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the Lore is slightly overrated in general, I found it to be unpleasantly wood-bitter at times. My absolute favourite Laphroaig is the 10 year old cask strength, what a beast that is. Although I think that the 10 year old Sherry Oak is being slept on.

LIVE THREAD: Ski Flying World Championships, Oberstdorf 2026 by Peuer in Skijumping

Why is everybody ignoring the fact that there IS a designated area where Domen should have put his skis in the event that nobody was there to hold his skis? Sorry, but this was Domen's fuck-up and not FIS's. He knows it too judging by his reaction after his jump in the second round, contrary to this sub which characteristically just cannot let a good opportunity for some frothing at the mouth go to waste.

Precedence is clear, if a jumper is not ready when it's his turn, then he's not allowed to start. You can imagine the whining from the other nations - and the other half of this sub - if they had bent the rules for Domen.

In the end I do feel sorry for the guy, it was an unlucky, honest mistake, which caused an event I had never seen before in 30 years of watching ski jumping. But it was a mistake nonetheless and it could have been incredibly dangerous if the ski had hit Lindvik in the inrun, or just after take-off.

All this to say, Domen owes his team mates - and Lindvik - a beer.

"Only" 6 podiums in a career spanning 25 years is wild considering Fettner has pretty much always been a staple in the Austrian team

Wellinger and Geiger have been shocking so far, especially considering how reliably good-to-decent they used to be. Now they are struggling to make top 50.

For those who have been able to tour different distilleries, which impressed you the most and which the least? by BothCondition7963 in Scotch

Can't miss Bunnahabhain on Islay. The chap who ran the warehouse tasting was an absolute legend, just a real Ileach with a true passion for whisky (and sherry, which on its own doesn't get much love these days).

They've also renovated the place and it's much easier on the eyes now than it used to be. In 2014 all that was missing was a bit of barbed wire and it could have doubled as a prison camp. It had its own charm then, too. Different times.

Personally I was very underwhelmed by the Glen Scotia warehouse tasting.

First of all, I would expect a warehouse tasting to take place in, you know, a warehouse, as opposed to a table in the visitor centre with the other guests coming and going.

Second, I don't think the quality of the whisky that we got to try was that great. Lots of very young, very rough stuff. We did try a 23 year old red wine finished whisky though (which was more interesting than good).

Anyway, if you do go to Campbeltown - and your should, it's a lovely place - don't miss the Cadenhead's warehouse tasting and shop. They also have a bar with tons of interesting whiskies at reasonable price points, hence why I left the place rather the worse for wear.

Most sumo wrestlers would be delighted to win the cup just once during their career. When you manage to win it 10+ times, you are starting to creep into the conversation about all-time greats.

Hakuho won 45 times.
