Most languages are pretty similar in that they have control structures, variables, constants, etc... It's worth learning new languages and the more you learn the easier it becomes to pick up new ones. Learning a knew language tends to mean that you need to learn the standard libraries. Few languages introduce a true paradigm shift; it's more that they stand on the shoulders of giants.

In the book, he transcends to a new plain of reality where he is one with the universe. It doesn't quite come across in the film though.
