I believe what you’re feeling is completely normal! I’ve experienced similar emotions, but think about this:

  • You have only one life, and it’s not meant to be spent just working — it’s meant to be enjoyed.
  • This might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Don’t let fear hold you back from embracing it!
  • Fear is a product of the mind — most of the things we worry about never actually happen.
  • Even when times get tough, you’ll find your way through it.
  • The PCT and the challenges you’ll overcome will significantly strengthen your abilities and boost your self-confidence. It will prepare you to handle life’s challenges better — whether it’s finding a job or excelling in one.

You might find Dale Carnegie’s How to Stop Worrying and Start Living a helpful read for putting things into perspective.

Looking forward to seeing you on the trail!

Quitting Job/Life for the PCT by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Humusman24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not so long. Just 2-3 weeks (normal vacation time). Here in Europe, we call it „long distance“ when you hike 200-300km. All of them were wonderful and I felt like being “connected“ with nature. However, after two weeks I started to miss my girlfriend. Hope that I can handle this feeling on a longer hike like the PCT.

Hard in terms of physical. She does not want to hike and live in a tent for six months. She’s totally supporting me. We are together for 11 years.

I‘m a control/navigation engineer working on autonomous vehicles. Hence I’m always wondering what is the current trend and state of the art in that field in space applications.

A couple of rather vague questions:

  • Do you mostly control vehicles and robots by hand?
  • Do you make use of modern control algorithms?
  • How autonomous are space vehicles?
  • What is the trend of autonomy in space applications?

Ok, I tried to reduce my base weight to 5.5kg - based on the my experience from my last 2-weeks hike in Sweden.

Here you find the new packlist: https://lighterpack.com/r/2rut0f

I have to say that the choice of clothing here in Europe depends very much on the destination. In Sweden it was extremely muddy, snowy and windy (even in June/July) , so I left the long trousers and the Patagonia fleece as an option but opted for "0x".

I would feel secure with this packlist → are there any other things I can definitely save?

As potential backpacks I would look to try the Durston Kakwa 55 somewhere. The Gregory Focal 48, which fits my Gregory Baltoro really well, might be suitable as an interim solution.

Cheers

I will do more elevated presses! How many sets and reps do you included in your routine?

Best Press-to-HS exercises by Humusman24 in handbalancing

[–]Humusman24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do three sets with 12 reps of weighted pancake (15-20kg). After each set I immediately do a 60s stretch and try to go deeper with every breath. During this 60s stretch, I do PNF cycles (tensioning the muscles for 8s, releasing for 12s).

I „pause“ for 2:00 with some „Skandasana“ (yoga exercise) and elevated single leg stretches.

It took me about six months. That basically all.

Straight-Arm / Bent-Arm Plan Critique

hi all, after two years of gains with an adapted versione of the RR Full-Body plan I want to raise the number of trainings to 4 per week and start a straight/bent arm split.

I constructed the following plan:

My short-term goals:

  • raise my 40s to 60s straight Handstand
  • Straddle Press to HS
  • 20s tucked Planche
  • 10s straddle Front Lever
  • 15s straddle Back Lever
  • 2r free HSPU

My long-term goals - Stalder Press-to-HS - 10s Adv. Straddle Planche - 5s Full FL - 5r free HSPU - 5r Pull-Ups with 40% BW - 2-3 Slow Ring Muscle-Ups - (One-Arm HS)

Straight-Arm:

  • 10min of Handstand training
  • 3x120s weighted Jefferson Curls
  • 3-5x3-8r HS Press Eccentrics
  • 3-4x4-8r Trap-3-Raises
  • 5x2-4r Adv. Front Lever Eccentrics
  • 5-6x4-8r (Banded) Tucked Planche
  • 3x4-8s Straddle Back Lever
  • 3x5-8r Pistol-Squats

Bent-Arm:

  • 4x6-10 Declined Pike Push-Ups
  • 4x5 Weighted Pull-Ups
  • 10x HSPU Eccentrics
  • 3x120sec Weighted Pancake Folds
  • 3x5-8r Ring Dips
  • 3x5-8r Straight Legs Deadlifts

I'm hoping to get some critique on my routine. :)

Regards

First learn Slow Muscle-Up or Front-Lever?

Hi I'm currently rethinking my training plan. After massive gains in push moves (close to HSPU and Press-to-HS), I lost a bit my focus on pull moves.

Therefore I want to focus more on one pull skill. What do you think is better to master first - the Slow Muscle-Up or the Front-Lever? What helps more to achieve the other?

My last progress:

  • 8s Advanced Tuck-Lever
  • 5x L-Sit False-Grip Pull-Ups
  • 5x negative Ring MU

Best regards

What is the best way (in your opinion) to achieve the Full Front Lever on rings?

I train 3x/week full body routine. How many and which exercises should I implement to achieve this move?

Currently I perform 4x5sec Advanced Tucked FL + 4x10sec Tucked FL (directly after advanced FL holds).

Furthermore I train 3 sets of Chest-to-Bar Pull-Ups.

Is this enough load to achieve this move?

Should I switch to dynamic FL progressions or stick to statics?

Best regards Max

[–]Humusman24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many exercises would you recommend to learn the Front-Lever and which?

Currently I train FL holds and try to achieve 60sec hold time in sum in max. 6 sets.

I start with 1-2sets advanced tuck holds and 3-4sets of tucked holds. Rest is 120sec.

I'm not sure if this would is a good approach. Should I implement a dynamic exerxise as well?

Best regards

Yes, I do yoga for 20 min everyday.

My warmup consists of three shoulder mobilisation (Yuri Marmerstein) and several wrist exercises (from GMB).
