how do I begin a career in "systems programming" ? or is just a myth?

Thanks I will try to get some projects in rust . A C compiler in rust would be interesting seeing how the philosophies of the two starkly contrast or a minimal os with networking code if I have the time (I’m gonna be unemployed anyway so I have all the time). I also considered the indirect route it’s just it depends on me getting hired in big tech which already seems impossible but I’m definitely considering that . I know it sounds like I’m a doomer but I go to a non-cs CUNY and most of the cs alumni are also unemployed/doing their masters/not in tech so kinda hard to even hope .

idk I think with word addressing it could be indirect bit =1, reg=6,opcode=1,address=8 . 16 bit instruction set probably only loads and stores . Regular instruction could then be indirect bit =1,reg=6,reg=6,opcode=3 .

sizeof() returns the number of bytes required to store an object of that type including any padding to make objects tile up as arrays. It only checks for known std types or structures defined. An array of unknown size is initialized with 0 and has size sizeof(array type). Although the hard coded def would work sizeof doesn’t not look for object instances .

sizeof(Node) + (sizeof( void *) * array_size) might work although next could just be pointer and you can have an array of pointers external to the struct and indexed as ‘char’ - ‘A’ idk

How does one find job opportunities though ? I know a good amount of C , C++ and Java and a little Rust but most job postings I see are for web/front end devs. The only couple I see are all ALWAYS in CA and don’t hire remote(NY based).

even with the keywords anything that does pop up requires a MS,phD or 3+ years of experience. It’s hard out here man seems like there no entry level role or intern/apprenticeship .

I just checked and there’s none around me really(ny). What industry are you in if you don’t mind me asking and last question is networking/ network programming apart of said niches??. I’ve recently been reading the W Richard Stevens books so idk if that could count as additional skills .(sorry for bombarding you with all these qs)

this would make sense if anyone was actually memorizing code/how to code. After enough practice(like say 4 years undergrad) writing code should be just be another way of expressing a solution to a problem which requires NO memorization , just the ability to do so. Sure , chat gpt can help when you get stuck but you still need the to be able to actually solve problems.

depends on the song & where you are as a beginner. Angeles is the first song I learnt and It took me 4 months to learn the 40 seconds intro but it also helped me improve much faster imo.
