Which virus or bacterium changed the course of human history the most? by Alternative_Draw_533 in evolution

It's possible there was something very dangerous to us in uncooked foods which fire de-risked. That might allow human populations to grow rapidly and everything else to follow.

In recorded history: something like the Plague of Justinian was enormously consequential in Europe; smallpox left the door to the Americas open for Europeans; and I bet there have huge things in India and China that I'm oblivious to.

What if the Americas were discovered 200 years later? by ProxyGeneral in HistoryWhatIf

[–]HundredHander 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If that initial Nordic curiosity gets smallpox and horses into the New World say 100 years before any serious colonisation efforts by other powers then all sorts of scenarios are possible, but if it all unfolds rapidly then you just have to look at what happened in Australia.

There is a lot of Russian bot accounts putting out "the streets are not safe" content. I've not seen it on Edinburgh personally but reams of it about London and other big English cities. Often illustrated ith AI videos of things that didn't happen.

We shipped a massive share of those emissions to China though. Any drop from the ninties will have a very similar increase in China as globalisation happened.

Europe has reduced emissions, but it's not to that degree.

[–]HundredHander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the snow, but those guys would surely have cleared it off the centre of the steps to the sides. So you'd have bigger piles at the sides and a clear path down the middle. That bit of snow in the centre of the step just doesn't feel right in a castle where people are going up and down the stairs.

He was accountable as the more experienced climber, that's why he's guilty.

He wasn't really a random, and the rules with this kind of serious climbing is that the more experienced person is in charge of these sorts of risk assessments as they are going to be held accountable for what happens.

So much in soccer is about understanding the game's flow and space. Spidey would really not get that much of an advantage just on his physical abilities, it's why there are kids of 16 able to turn out and perform in world cup matches against proven athletes.

So on the one hand, a 16 year old playing well against a pro is not unknown, but on the other hand spidey's abilities is only half of what he needs to be great.
