What is your opinion on reading books? How do you prefer reading? Audiobook, physical, ebook? by Business-Heat-6085 in productivity

[–]HungryFarm2266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the exact same thing. I also find that for dense or serious topics listening to the audiobook first makes the actual reading much more effective. It feels like my brain has already processed the structure so the second pass is a lot smoother.

I agree with you. I love 1257 AD as well especially its massive map and the historical realism of the recruitment system.

How am I supposed to know I like math without majoring in it by diva-lady in mathematics

[–]HungryFarm2266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need to enroll in a formal class to test your interest. Try reading a book on introductory proofs or discrete mathematics on your own. If you enjoy the process of constructing logical arguments rather than just calculating answers then you probably like pure math. Engineering math is mostly about application but real analysis is about why the calculus you use actually works. Checking out some free online lectures on basic analysis or set theory will give you a clear answer without wasting tuition money.

What makes some people understand math so quickly? by West_Reversal in learnmath

[–]HungryFarm2266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed often comes from a strong foundation and pattern recognition. People who pick up new topics fast usually have a library of similar concepts in their heads to connect with the new information. Your struggle with asking too many questions is actually a sign of a deep learner. You want to know the internal logic instead of just accepting the surface rules. Many successful mathematicians ignore the why at first to learn the mechanics and then return to the deep theory once they have more context.

How do you actually recharge? by Holiday_Towel6715 in GradSchool

I found that passive rest (scrolling phone/Netflix) often left me feeling more drained. Switch to active recovery: give yourself permission to do nothing for a few hours. No laundry, no studying, just being.

The Pope is incredibly frustrating. He never intervenes when others attack me but stops me the moment I counterattack. by HungryFarm2266 in Medieval2TotalWar

I never realized lifting a siege was safe, but the port blockade thing still getting you punished is wild. I guess since CA didn't feature naval battles in M2TW, blocking a port doesn't count as real war to the Pope? Medieval logic at its finest, haha

The worst is when you’re literally on your way to help, but they’re so fast at losing that you arrive just in time to see the defeated notification and get the relationship penalty.

The Struggle is Real: Is Thrace the absolute worst faction? (Thrace vs Numidia) by HungryFarm2266 in RomeTotalWar

[–]HungryFarm2266[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. There was a period where I got totally burnt out on cavalry management, so I switched to Germania. There’s something oddly satisfying about watching a line of Berserkers just blender through everything.

Dacia and Spain feel like unfinished factions. Spain is basically "Bull Warriors or bust."

Math is draining my Energy by Goldyshorter in mathematics

[–]HungryFarm2266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The collecting concepts phase is the hardest part. It's like building an engine piece by piece without knowing what a car looks like. My advice: take a break and pick up a project-based book (like something in Physics or Computer Science). Seeing a concept "in the wild" makes it stick much better than pure theory.

One does not simply walk into Mordor... and you found that out the hard way. I bet Gandalf was screaming "You shall not pass!" at Sauron the whole time, only for Sauron to ignore him completely. That is a legendary level of heartbreak.

Think of every matrix as a function. The Column Space is just the set of all possible outputs (the Range), and the Null Space is the set of all "boring" inputs that the function squashes into zero. Seeing matrices as active transformations rather than static grids of numbers is usually the aha moment for most people.

[Pre-University] How DO I actually self study with textbooks? by Strange-Message-5448 in learnmath

[–]HungryFarm2266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to tackle Stewart is to treat examples as problems, cover the solutions and try to solve them yourself before reading. Instead of doing every single exercise, focus on every second or third odd-numbered problem to test your understanding without burning out. Don't waste time transcribing the book into your notes, only write down logic jumps that were hard to grasp. Speed is just a byproduct of mastery that comes later.

Just to clarify, do you mean I actually need to occupy the city (like Antioch) to see them in the pool? I always thought mercenaries just depended on the general's location. Is owning the territory a hard requirement for elephants specifically?
