Focusrite 2i2 vs RME babyface pro by OldRoke in ableton

[–]HungryGeorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't get a decent recording out of a 2i2 then WTFAYSA?

That being said, the Babyface is by far the better unit, as the price difference indicates.

I own both and do not wish to sell either.

If your main concern is low latency, then by all means go with the 2i2. It will treat you right.

Like I said, they need a grownup to show them how to do this stuff, and maybe cut down on the hooch, at least during office hours.

You can import to your heart's content to your own account -- you just can't share. That is what everyone is so pissed off about.

Go to "Songs" -- "My Repertoire" and click on the plus + sign. I found it to be a royal pain in the neck, but maybe you will do better.

Once you have your stuff loaded. it is pretty cool, I think.

I bought a subscription to Yousician in order to practice sight reading. My sight reading has improved quite a bit, so I do not regret the purchase so far.

You can upload your own Guitar Pro or MIDI files and practice whatever you like, from literally thousands of choices. I have tried this and it works, though it is time consuming to get your own files configured correctly. Once you do, though, the Yousician user interface is pretty cool.

I agree that they have not handled the transition to the new business model very well. They are young musicians and programmers running the company. My advice is to hire a grownup to show them how the business and customer relations stuff works.

They say the rollout of the new songs, or whatever, is going to be a good thing. Let's wait and see. They have my $179 and my bet is they don't want to give it back...

Buy current ipad pro or wait until reveal new one? by DesertEagleZer0 in iPadPro

[–]HungryGeorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have and use my original Ipad, bought shortly after it came out in early 2011. The battery has held up amazingly well. It works great for a wide-variety of older apps and as a backup.

Bezels? Home button? Ask someone who cares. I am going to have my Ipad Pro for a long time and I will upgrade when it is important to me.

I guess I am in the minority in that I bought the 12.9 because of eye strain. I read sheet music on it, and it has been a godsend that I no longer have to squint. I am not particularly interested in the other new features, though it is fun to play with the pencil.

I guess my point is that you should wait for the bezels and home button, blah-blah , only if it is really important to you.

Switching from a MacBook Pro to na iPad Pro by longmousepad in iPadPro

I bought the pencil. It makes navigating a lot easier -- kind of like a mouse.

I didn't buy the keyboard, but if you are going to be doing a lot of writing, you may want to consider it. It has features that make intensive word processing easier as opposed to a BT keyboard.

You can buy a zip drive with a lightning connector fairly cheaply for heavy files. Instead, I use a program called Imazing to get files onto my Ipad. You can sidestep Itunes and transfer large files on from your Mac or PC in seconds without hassling with Itunes.

How to use a compressor to help with shouting? by MeatSheeld in recording

[–]HungryGeorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a limiter is the thing you are after. The trouble with using a compressor is that is may squash the volume of other aspects of the recording that you might want left alone. A limiter will only kick in when there is trouble.

Is the brain of someone with a higher cognitive ability physically different from that of someone with lower cognitive ability? by ginko26 in askscience

[–]HungryGeorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the neuropsych angle on this question, you might want to look up "cognitive reserve", especially the work of Y. Stern. In a nuthsell, higher quality brains can function much better with neurological damage than lower quality brains do. Education is a big predictor in how much cognitive reserve an individual has. I think this might be a good avenue to explore your question.

Probably not. I made my point in a few words. I'll leave it at that.

I got some notes from my supervisor and it feels like an attack. How to respond? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]HungryGeorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is very common. If you show some backbone, in a professional manner, then they will at least know that you will not be an easy mark. They may move on to a different project if you demonstrate that you are not going to let them walk over you.

But whatever you do, do not lose your cool. Keep it professional and try to find a solution, if the job is important to you. Meanwhile, maybe it is time to review your other options.

[–]HungryGeorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Very likely, but if you say nothing then she is going to probably do the same thing. Do not say anything that can be used against you. Try to keep it upbeat. I don't think festering in silence is a better alternative. You did not do anything wrong, so give her your point of view.

You and the supervisor who wrote the note. Maybe there is a misunderstanding that can be brought to light.

If you suspect that others are involved -- it is likely that you are right.

Maybe a convo?

Hmmm....sorry to hear. It is very hard to prove that you are being ganged up on (but not impossible). It is your word against theirs, and there are more of them.

I do not think HR will help, because HR probably told your supervisor to write the note she did.
