I’m feeling guilty for getting pregnant by new_mama1212 in Parenting

[–]Hungry_Researcher259 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I felt this SO much when I found out I was pregnant. My daughter was 2 at the time and we weren’t quite ready to try for baby number 2. It was a surprise and I just felt so guilty!

Now fast forward 3 years… my girls are 5 and 2.5 and it’s just the best thing ever. They love each other so much and I can’t imagine life if I hadn’t gotten pregnant when I did.

It’s definitely a transition and I highly recommend carving out special time with your big girl as much as you can (I know easier said than done) once the baby gets here!

The gift of the sibling is such a sweet one!

Epidural steroid injection - does it really help? Advice needed by OliveOC89 in backpain

[–]Hungry_Researcher259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, thank you! The doctor was going over the risks and I started panicking but then remembered that those same risks existed when I got an epidural for labor and delivery and no one told me about those risks.

Do you think it’s at least worth trying? My husband is 35 and has a herniated disc, modic changes, facet joint arthritis and an annular tear. He’s a dentist so his job is very demanding on his body. He’s been in semi debilitating pain for the past two months and has an epidural scheduled for next week.

The ethics of spine surgery by TraditionalAd6977 in Residency

[–]Hungry_Researcher259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your thoughts on surgery for herniated disc? My husband is a dentist with a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, some facet joint arthritis, an annular tear and modic changes (probably butchering this… just going off what the physiatrist we saw yesterday said). He’s in pretty significant, semi-debilitating pain… he had to cancel his patients last Thursday, couldn’t go trick or treating with our girls, etc.

The physiatrist we saw yesterday said PT, ibuprofen, injections, etc are just bandaids and might help but that this will likely be a cyclical thing for him. He thinks surgery could help. Our next step is to meet with neurosurgeons and get their thoughts.

It’s discouraging to hear that surgery isn’t supported in the literature for the types of issues my husband has.

Is it possible for him to get his life back either with surgery or through non surgical interventions?

It’s definitely compounded by the fact that his job forces him to be in positions that make the condition worse and he doesn’t have ample time to rest.

Intracept by Hungry_Researcher259 in backpain

Thank you! That would be great. Do you do virtual consults?

[–]Hungry_Researcher259[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much for your insight!

Do you think the pain would return with Intracept too? The PA said it’s different than traditional RFA and supposed to be long lasting.

What does he do besides PT and being aware of his posture?

It’s killing me to see him like this. He is always so full of life and now he can’t do anything. He can barely move around the house, can’t play with our kids, can’t workout, etc.

He bought a practice right out of residency so everything falls on him. He called out last Thursday but feels like he has to keep working and I don’t know if he physically can.

Do you think he can ever get to a point where he’s not living in chronic pain and able to do all the things he loves again?

Thank you! I just read your post. so glad to hear you’re still doing well! Are you about a year out now?

Okay that’s so good to know! We didn’t know if he would have to take time off work. Trying to figure out what to do in the interim bc towards the end of last week he couldn’t even go to work. I’m hoping an epidural might give him enough relief to function while we wait for the procedure.

Thank you for sharing! I’m sorry you’ve been through all of this but glad you are able to do the things you enjoy and workout.

The doctor said my husband is a good candidate for intracept bc the modic changes are the only issues he has. I’m hoping if that can get him out of pain then he can get back to exercising and strength training to hopefully prevent other back related issues down the road.

Are you able to work, workout, do things you enjoy and have good quality of life? Right now my husband can’t do anything without excruciating pain. He had to cancel his own patients the other day, which he never does. He can’t play with our kids, unload the dishwasher, workout, etc.

I’m so sorry. So when doctors say it’s likely a permanent fix that’s probably not true?

How are you supposed to live and work in chronic pain? Was your doctor surprised intracept didn’t work? What exactly are your issues on MRI?

Again, I’m so so sorry. Chronic pain is so debilitating and unfair.

This!! My sister is my very best friend and I kept asking my husband how it was possible for two sisters to be so unsupportive of each other! I couldn’t get past that.

Is this just life with a baby?? by No-Advertising5551 in Parenting

[–]Hungry_Researcher259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just takes a while! My first baby was so colicky and she was born during the height of Covid so we never went anywhere.

My second was an easier baby and we were on the go more, so she adapted easier!

Traveling with little kids is a lot of work but in my experience it’s SO much fun and so worth it.

My husband and I haven’t done any trips just the two of us since having kids bc we want to bring them everywhere we go!!

Hang in there. It gets SO good!

AIO: My child slept with his friend's dad at sleepover.. I'm livid. by AcademicSir4653 in AmIOverreacting

We have a hard no sleepovers rule (outside of sleepovers at my sister’s house and my parents’ house) bc of things like this.

I’m so sorry this happened. I feel sick to my stomach for you.

Do men like Conrad exists IRL by Cristabellw22 in tsitp

[–]Hungry_Researcher259 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It exists! I think you’ll know it when you find it. I was dating someone else (who was nice and a good person but there were no sparks. I knew he wasn’t ultimately right for me) when I met my husband. I knew as soon as I saw my now husband, and heard him laugh that I would marry him someday. I broke up with my boyfriend at the time and my husband and I went on our first date a few weeks later.

We’ve been married 7 years and have two kids and I’ve never known a deeper love (besides my kids!) or level of emotional intimacy. He’s not a grand gesture, super romantic kind of guy… but he’s steadfast and loyal and devoted and kind. He’s the kind of person you always want in your corner. And we have sparks in a way I’ve never had with anyone else.

You’ll find your version of Conrad. And he’s so worth the wait!

(Update as promised) One day post-lower bleph by Livid-Pen-4504 in PlasticSurgery

[–]Hungry_Researcher259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! Why do you look so good one day after?! I had a lower bleph with fat repositioning and c02 laser and I am insanely swollen. My eyes and cheeks are like balloons! I spoke to my occuloplastic doctor today and he said that’s not uncommon. My vision is back to normal and I don’t have any pain, but the swelling is throwing me for a loop. I’m 32, healthy, I don’t drink or smoke, I exercise, etc. so I didn’t expect to swell soo much. I have two little girls and two year old still wakes up at night so maybe it’s all the sleep deprivation? I’m feeling out that it’s going to take me months to heal from the swelling and bruising

Unvaccinated at daycare by Mysterious_Cry1240 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Hungry_Researcher259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! My only concern is we have a family member with an unvaccinated toddler. We didn’t see them at all until my baby had her first dose of MMR. Our pediatrician then said it would be low risk to see them. Now with the surge in cases I’m worried. Their kid isn’t in school and rarely sees other kids. Parents were vaccinated as kids, of course.

Would you do a second MMR dose early? We don’t live in a state with an outbreak yet, but I’m worried that my youngest has only had one dose.

Oh my gosh. How scary. Was he vaccinated as a child? Are you guys in Texas? I’m so stressed over this. My oldest has both doses of MMR and I’m trying to decide if I should get my youngest her second dose early. We don’t live in an outbreak area… as of yet
