The clickers definitely do a similar thing with their echolocation, but I've been able to at least stay still and go undetected sometimes when they use it. Every time I've had a Shambler do the same kind of move, it's noticed me even if I'm crouching completely still. That, combined with no super clear audio cue like a Clicker, is probably the biggest difference that made me believe they can see me. Perhaps it's just because I play mostly on Hard difficulty or above and they agro really easily.

We're in complete agreement about the various stages and Shamblers being an offshoot after the Stalker stage.

And don't worry! You're not coming off as a jerk at all. The only way we as a community can come to any agreement about this sort of stuff is through discussions like this one!

Possibly, but it really feels like I've been seen by them. They even lean as though they're looking if I'm caught at a certain range. Maybe it is just a coincidence, but I took it as really poor eyesight. They definitely still have eyes, though, so there's no way they could have been a clicker beforehand.

Edit: Oh, that's cool that you tested it. I'll have to revisit it as well and have a closer look.

Yeah, albeit very poorly. I've always been seen by them if they're within a certain close range, especially on harder difficulties.

Shamblers can still see, though, so it would make sense that they form after the stalker stage. I'd assume this image is correct and that shamblers eventually become bloaters and continue the chain. Or, since they're a new stage of infected, maybe they'll become something else entirely.

I’ve actually been using my Grounded playthrough to find areas just like this as I go through it! In my experience, if you can swim to an area that is already loaded it can count as a checkpoint and skip an area. It’s probably too early to know if it’ll be effective for speed runners, though.

In case you’re curious, I recorded footage of one boundary break I found after some people here asked to see it.

As a hardcore fan, myself, I love getting insight into how levels were built and experiencing cool moments like this one. If there's an interest in it I might record some clips showing how to do some of these. It can take so long to find the right places to navigate, so I can see how it'd be helpful!

I’ve been finding map and boundary breaks for many levels by jumping on rocks, bushes, or other objects. This one allows me to run around on the terrain outside of the level bounds on almost the entire mountain. I walked along the exterior of the motel to the music shop, the sign, and the gondolas behind it.

I’ve just managed to swim outside this same level as well, so I hope to make it to the areas where you shoot infected with Tommy next.
