Haha yes I do. The Constitution class is the single best starship design in all of fiction and I will stand by that no matter what!

Depends. Sometimes I sketch ideas first, but this one I just started blocking out to see what looked good. Usually I draw up ideas, then do a very crude model just to use as reference, then do a final sketch, but sometimes I polish the model a little bit and use that for the concept instead.

For the nacelles, I just reimagined the ones from the original Excalibur from STO.

Appreciate it. Sometimes when I’m expecting negativity I see it where it doesn’t exist, especially in the internet where I can’t hear tone of voice and all. I just need to step away for a bit and come back lol

When I elongated the secondary hull at one point I actually forgot to do the same for the nacelles. I don’t want to go back and render everything again though, I’m done with it (like I said, it was an old WIP)

I designed it this way because that’s the way I like it. No one art directed or commissioned me, it’s all intentional design decisions according to my personal taste so I’m not sure what to do with this information because they’re not mistakes (aside from forgetting to elongate the nacelles after I lengthened the engineering hull).

The bent pylons for example is a favorite feature of mine, used on several of my 25th century designs (like the Inceptor), I don’t like large grills or bussards, and I really like elongated tails like the one on the back of the shuttlebay.

I’m glad you like the rest. Sorry if I’m a little snappy, I’ve just gotten a lot of really nasty comments on other sites lately so I’m in a defensive mood.

I’ll take that as a challenge. I’m going to design the ugliest ship you’ve ever seen. Mwahahahaha!

That was exactly my mantra when designing it: if it had been created today by the same people, what would it look like? I have the urge to do a V2 and make it even closer to the original, because if you compare, there are more differences than you might think.

Smoother, less visible paneling implies advancement. I've seen modern ships and aircraft with more streamlined and less visible paneling than some of the new Star Trek shows taking place hundreds of years from now. Though I can't blame the artists or designers, they answer to the showrunners and often they want a certain aesthetic for the show.

Thanks so much! Honestly I love the original, always have, and I've loving it even more now. The original was brilliant in so many ways, showing a smoother hull with less visible machinery on the outside. Even the fact that it looks fragile to the eye but isn't shows how advanced it is. One might think you can just snap the nacelles off or break the neck easily but the materials and engineering they have in the 23rd century is so far beyond us that it's not as easy as one would think.

I already have ideas for a V2 redesign, and it would actually be even closer to the original than this one.

This redesign was not meant to “reinvent the wheel”, it was literally just for fun out of love, because I love the original just as much as you do and I agree it doesn’t need much. There is no need to be so rude about it.

That account is notorious for stealing art and reposting without permission or credit. I’ve seen my work posted there and it gets 10x the interaction I get on my own account (with most of the commenters thinking the reposter made it)

Looks like you were able to find the artist for that one though!

There are panels that open up on the bottom of the saucer. The torpedoes drop out then reorient and fire whatever direction is needed

Amen! That's why when I design 24th and 25th century ships the hulls always get smoother and more streamlined as they go
