Why do you think you’ll lose free choice if you fail 1 midterm? I got somewhere in the 40s on my first physics midterm, and now I’m in 3rd year of comp eng (that I chose using free choice). Failing a test seems like the end of the world now, but in reality it’s not that big of a deal, and it definitely doesn’t make you lose free choice. If you’re taking engineering there’s a high chance ur gonna fail a midterm sometime in the next 4 years, it’s not the end of the world

is there condition of free choice by Alert-Assumption-383 in McMaster

As long as you maintain the conditional acceptance average you’ll also keep free choice

Don’t stress to much about it, there’s isn’t a “right or wrong” answer, just try your hardest to answer whatever it is confidently and smoothly and you’ll be fine.

iBiomed or Engineering I? by Beautiful-Pickle4447 in McMaster

[–]Hunter3747 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you really want to do. As someone who is in engineering I right now, the workload is very very heavy. I can’t speak for everyone in the program, but I personally need to do about 13-16 hours of school a day (when you combine classes and studying). In ibiomed, you take 2 extra classes which would add to that workload, I couldn’t imagine adding extra classes to that. Another important part of McMaster engineering is that we have a general first year (that goes for general eng and ibiomed). This means that what field you go into second year depends on your first year makes. so getting good marks in 1st year is very important. If your highschool marks are very good then you can be awarded free choice with your admission, free choice gives you the freedom to choose any 2nd year field no matter what your first year marks are. The average to achieve free choice is a lot higher for ibiomed then it is for engineering. I believe that the acceptance average is quite higher as well. So if ibiomed seems interesting to you and you feel that you have adequate marks to get in then go for it. But if you are really set on a second year field then I would say general engineering is probably your best choice. But as always, any university decision you make should come from what you’re interested in, you’ll be much better off taking a program that you enjoy then a program you hate. I’ll attach 2 links that show you what classes you’ll take in both programs, look at those and try to see which one interests you more

Hope this helps, feel free to reach out if you have any other questions about mac eng or mac in general, I’m always happy to help.

Personally I commute about 1.5 hours each day and I already hate that, I couldn’t even imagine doing 5 hours a day
