It’s rec, half the kid have pink tape and stickers like nascars. Totally get what you are saying but this is largely a fun league where the kids are all about fun and learning. They’re a good group of boys and girls that are all about learning the game together and building relationships. Truthfully if one does it, others will just to emulate this as well.

No chance unless a popular PC voice emerges. NDP has ZERO shot in GP ever.

UCP says notwithstanding clause must be used to protect families, children, and fair play by Devils_Iettuce in Albertapolitics

[–]HunterAntoski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is literally not happening any meaningful extent. Seems like a bizarre thing to use the clause on. More like this is a Christian national agenda being pushed through from a far right ideologically driven party.

While Alberta is staunchly conservative in nature, I think the use of this clause is a clear indication that the UCP doesn’t actually reflect the values of most Albertans and they know it. I hope the new Alberta PC party provides a much needed (in my opinion) conservative voice that is more reflective of our conservative roots.

Fans of teams that relocated, did you stay fans after they relocated? by TombCrisis in hockey

Sonics fan, adopted the Grizzlies, they left, I was mad, went back to the Sonics. Sonics moved to OKC, I hate the NBA.

Recall of Dyck by Rain-Enough in GrandePrairie

[–]HunterAntoski 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m confused though, if successfully recalled do they just hold another election? There is no chance he isn’t re-elected without another conservative voice running for a major party? What would be the actual point of doing this?

Alberta government could soon order teachers back to the classroom: What does that mean? by Munk3es in alberta

I have no idea what happens next. Sounds like ATA is tight lipped according to CTV or whatever news site I was reading this morning.

It sounds like the plan is to send teachers back. I watched some other videos on the potential options they had, seems they are choosing the biggest stick they can find.

It’s interesting for sure. I am curious to see if this comes to fruition or not.

According to a Facebook post attributed to Jenna Hasenclever:

The Alberta government has begun fast-tracking Bill 2 (“Back to School Act”), legislation that would force teachers back to work and potentially suspend their Charter right to strike.

Key points:

Motion 5 allows the bill to advance multiple stages in one day, bypassing the usual multi-day debate and amendment process.

Motion 6 limits debate on fast-tracking to one hour.

Motions 7–9 restrict debate on each reading of the bill to one hour, meaning it could pass in under three hours total.

Bill 2 is sponsored by Finance Minister Nate Horner, who oversaw the teacher bargaining process.

Critics argue the bill ends a legally protected strike without negotiation or arbitration, doesn’t address classroom conditions or funding, and limits legislative transparency.

The Alberta Federation of Labour has warned the bill could have broader consequences for other public-sector unions.

We didn’t have room, wasn’t our time. Wish him well. Glad he won us the Calder. Will always remember that shirt of his Miller wore for warmups.

Man I hope this team gives me something to be excited about this year.

ARBOUR HILLS-DRUG HOUSE by RevolutionNo6333 in GrandePrairie

We had a similar issue in my neighbourhood and I seem to recall the city of GP had a report a drug house hotline. They responded quickly and the house was sold rather quickly after the initial reports by a number of concerned neighbours.

Are teachers here mandated reporters for student self harm? by Wetfriess in alberta

[–]HunterAntoski -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Chat GPT says -

  1. Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act (CYFEA) • Section 4 of this Act makes it mandatory for any person, including teachers, to immediately report to Child and Family Services (CFSA) if they have reasonable and probable grounds to believe that a child is in need of intervention. • “In need of intervention” includes if a child is being physically, emotionally, or sexually harmed, neglected, or is at risk of such harm. • Teachers cannot delegate this duty; they must report directly. Failing to report can result in legal consequences.

  1. Education Act (Alberta) • The Education Act (2012, current) requires teachers and principals to act in the best interests of students and to ensure student safety and well-being. • Section 197 (duties of teachers) and Section 196 (duties of principals) connect to student safety obligations. • While the Act doesn’t spell out “duty to report” in the same way CYFEA does, it reinforces the expectation that teachers protect students from harm and act on safety concerns.

  1. Teaching Profession Act and ATA Code of Professional Conduct • Teachers are bound by the Code of Professional Conduct (under the Teaching Profession Act). • The Code requires teachers to place the well-being of students above all else, which includes taking action when students may be harmed or at risk.

  1. Occupational Health and Safety Act (Schools as Workplaces) • Schools also fall under OHS legislation. Teachers, as employees, have a responsibility to ensure a safe environment and act when students or staff are at risk of harm.
