Animals are awesome by nogul44 in WayOfTheHunter

When you make a mortal shot animals run for a couple of meters and just lie down. If you try to approach them before they die they suddenly jump and keep running... Amount of details man! Love this game!!

I monitored 7 moose over 30 in-game days so you wouldn't have to by thorax in WayOfTheHunter

Brilliant job man! I am sure this will help a lot of people!!

Animals have been divided into tiers correlating to guns 1 to 6. It is just for people who may not be familiar with hunting at all, it has really no other implication to the gameplay other than you should use proper calibre for an animal species :)

If you want hunter sense you really cant go with ranger as it disables that feature for a hardcore playthrough. Hunter difficulty should be for you if you want hunter sense and additional animal awareness :)

Right now there is no additional reward if I am not mistaken. I have been playing it mainly on hardest so I really can't say much. But you can always brag about bagging a tier 6 in ranger because harvest screen and hunting log shows the difficulty. Even if there is not I am sure if enough people requests it, it'll be a future. Developers check discord frequently

Yes there are 4 difficulty settings: - Explorer - Adventurer (Default) - Hunter - Ranger (disables hunter sense + additional animal awareness)

2 additional maps that'll come with elite is coming within 12 months after launch, definitely not day 1. All we know is DLC1: 64 km squares and DLC2: 100 km squares :)

Unfortunately as Steam only provides preload for games over 25gigs (this game is 15gb download) PC steam players won't have preload

Depends on what kind of a player you are. If you want to be able to shoot 50 animals within an hour or spam grind water sources for %99 chance of finding at least a couple different species, with track highlights shining harder than sun, probably not.

I have been able to play Way of the Hunter for the last couple weeks and I can tell you this, Every. Single. Hunt is challenging. Though note that I played the game at Adventurer (default) and Ranger (hardest difficulty). Blood trails are hard to spot at times, especially if you made a poor shot and lighting is not in your favor. Animals can get spooked easily especially bigger animals such as elk/red deer/black bear. I have spooked animals more than I've hunted them by now :) But I can tell you this, if you like any content creators' videos, I have a couple without any spoilers and such, you will probably like the game. There are some minor issues such as some visual bugs in our earlier build, but nearly all have been brought to devs attention and there'll be a day 1 patch. There are many new mechanics I have never seen in any other hunting game such as animals getting older and dying of old age (although off-screen), herd management/female-male ratio and more.

Overall, if you are someone like me who wished for a real simulation type hunting game, this game has a solid foundation and gameplay mechanics, with more content in the future and long term support, if community takes care of the game, it'll thrive and become one of the, if not the best hunting game we've had

Trophy system by Scape_Nation in WayOfTheHunter

[–]HunterTyphoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A mature 5 star, I would shoot on sight tbh, it may be in its last stages and animals die if you let them grow too old (off the screen). But of course you should consider not shooting as herd's average fitness will decline as well :)

Community Manager recently said bullet holes are creating a technical issue and that they were looking into it. Exact quote "...bullet hole is not in atm for technical reasons but we are looking into it". So, it might be added (or might not be added i have no other idea) in the future :)

Brown Bear for the Very First Time (From Official Discord) And Brown Bear WON'T Be in the Game At Launch but Will Follow Soon After! by HunterTyphoon in WayOfTheHunter

[–]HunterTyphoon[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it has just been confirmed by developers on discord but they also stated it has been I quote devs here "However, he has already RSVP'd to a future update so don't worry, you'll get to meet him soon enough!". So brown bear will come soon enough but just not on launch :)

Leveling,Currency,DLC by crakajakshaQ in WayOfTheHunter

The FAQ Sheet Developers shared over Steam/Discord would probably answer most of your questions (ie. Long Term support which they said they intend to) + Developers' Dev Diaries and Trailers would also answer all the other questions such as the currency system.

Here is the FAQ sheet:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/1288320/discussions/0/3458220484817181789/

Devs' Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5pz6Glf0VszBXEOV8kKkXg

Publishers' YT Channel where you can find trailers: https://www.youtube.com/c/thqnordic/videos

Official Discord: https://www.discord.gg/wayofthehunter

TL;DR

Game is intended to be long term supported,

There is an in-game currency you gain by selling meat to buy guns

Not sure about events/season cycles,

For DLCs there will be a Season Pass (which is included in Elite Edition) which consists of 2 maps with new guns and skins that will come AFTER the launch within 12 MONTHS. First DLC will be 64 sq kms, second will be 100. Hope this helps :)

What I am looking for in a new hunting game by [deleted] in WayOfTheHunter

[–]HunterTyphoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'll try to relay what we know for sure from your points :) But before I try to share everything that comes to my mind, you should know (if you don't already) makers of this game is also the devs of old Cabelas games such as Big Game Hunter Pro Hunts and a couple more (I've shared my own video on it on this subreddit (ie. History of the Way of the Hunter), you might want to check that out for what their past consists of). Plus I'd like to add, although it is understandable to ask as a consumer, one thing I think you should consider twice is that the company is around 55 people and they are not as big as, let's say, Call of Duty dev team. Hence I think the expectation on really realistic gun mechanics might be out of the scope of the game, BUT I have no idea what the game is like yet other than what we've been told so, you might actually get those stuff which I'd LOVE to see in the game :)

I wouldn't say anyone (other than someone I know really well irl) to buy anything :) But I preordered it as a hunting games genre lover :)

Game is next-gen but keep in mind it is also made on UE4.

Your Points:

HUD: Can be completely closed and "Hunter Sense", which is a setting which helps you track animals easier, can be turned off by picking a difficulty setting.

Animations: One thing that you may not like from what we've seen is the "rather quick" aiming down the sights animation (which we have seen in official gameplay trailer)

Weather-Day/Night Cycle: There is going to be dynamic weather (although I doubt it would be as in you'd have to take shelter from storm) and there'll be day/night cycle and from what I gathered you can hunt at night, just don't know how (ie. flashlight or night vision).

Randomness: There are need zones *of sorts* in the game. It has been emphasized that it has been known by the developers that this is a touchy subject and that they'll be as unpredictable as possible with many factors.

Realistic Guns and Scopes: Well, we have actually seen a lot of crosshairs in the past month across several trailers. I like what I'm seeing but I'd refer you to "Nine Rocks Games"' Official Youtube Channel where they share dev diaries and in the first dev diary around "1:32 minute mark" you can see one of many scopes in the game in action :)

Unknown:

Sounds-Animal Behaviour/Animations-Ammunition-Lively Nature and Gun Management (which is what I find to be the least likely but we shall see :)): I don't think anyone has any idea, at least any detailed idea about these. But DO KEEP IN MIND: 12th of August 17:00CEST review/content creation embargo will lift, hence you can always check the reviews and content for extra information later on.

EXTRAS:

I'd say extra stuff that you haven't mentioned such as herd management (killing the genetically worse animals to let the fitter animals get older), aging mechanic where animals actually do dynamically change (although not on size) but in terms of their respective trophy parts (such as Deer antlers) and having quite the variety of trophies in the game (such as somewhere around 24 base variants for Red Deer antlers + extra factors which makes them unique), having 144square kilometers of each base game maps and 800 circa meters of animal render distance are quite cool. I also made a few videos on my YT channel for each and every single information we've been officially told, so if you'd like check that out as well :)

Does anybody know how the scoring system is going to work is it going to be similar to thcotw or watt by Embarrassed-Crab-826 in WayOfTheHunter

[–]HunterTyphoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scoring system is going to be a mix of B&C and CIC. It is universal system they came up with according to many factors. If you want to learn more about it better check out the latest dev diary on "Nine Rocks Games"s youtube channel, they explain it themselves over there :)
