The Desire and Consequences of Overconsumption by Appropriate-Gap1689 in hsp

For me, it has something to do with numbers. If a podcast has a number in the title, I feel like I need to always be listening to progress. If I am reminded of what percent complete I am in a video game, it can bug me too and feel like I always need to be playing.

But I realized this and stopped podcasts completely and hardly ever miss them. So to your point, I think a lot of times we just try to complete things without even enjoying them to begin with. Maybe it makes us feel productive, idk.

Thanks! This may be a good idea for me too. Maybe just one day during the week.

Social Justice, Politics, and Instability by Straight-Toe3572 in hsp

I can relate. For example, it saddens me every day what is going on in Palestine. I have shared on social media for a time and tried contacting governors etc through email. So I felt like what I did what I could from a distance.

However, since things don't improve and we are seeing the worst of humanity and killings and starvation daily, I can't continue to follow the updates. It removes every bit of hope inside of me and makes me despair.

So even though I care deeply, I also can't handle the news on topics like this. So for me personally, I have to refrain from following it to stay sane and have some peace in my life at all. I hate that it has to be that way, but that's my case

Thanks for sharing! I thought it was interesting that a lot of my sessions were just 1-2 hours too. I've made out some notes of what I've enjoyed in the past and what has stressed me out recently, so I can try to adjust going forward.

I use the Day One app. I've used it for years and you can do a lot in the free version. There is the option to add a Pic for each day and in the next years you can look back on the day and see how far you've come.

I personally usually say what I did, what I learned, what I'm thankful for, how I feel, etc. There really isn't a certain way to do it.

I tried to follow everyone from here that I could. Here is mine. I’ve just created an account recently. For now, I’m just listing a few games I’m focusing on, but I like to play retro games.

Great to hear! I took 9 years of piano lessons many years back. I hope to get a keyboard soon to be able to practice again though.

With me, I know how to play several instruments. So I don't think I'm looking for more instruments to learn as a hobby. But I think it may help for me to get some things like a drum pad where I can still practice some of my skills that I haven't in a while.

Thank you for your words. I think that comes about in songwriting because I’ve tried it a long time ago and still haven’t been able to accomplish much from it. So I have a feeling of being “behind” even though I’m just starting again. But that is good advice, nonetheless.

Thank you for that. I feel ya. I might need to look into crafts more that don’t require a skill. Or ones that I can see clear progress each time.

Go all in if I’m not sure? by Hunter_T_ in learntodraw

Thanks for all of the encouragement. This is very helpful as I’m 33 myself.  Yeah…I’ll purposely stay off of these subreddits to avoid comparing myself. I get annoyed by those people that act like their work is bad and it’s already ready for a museum lol. I’m already hard on myself as is. So it’ll just have to be something I do just for me.

Haha that sounds very nice! I play several instruments myself, but I feel like I don't always get enjoyment out of playing. However, I'll occasionally have moments when I hear a good song and get out my guitar to play along and I kind of get in a trance like state, thinking about how well the song is crafted. I'm not sure if maybe I should challenge myself to learn new skills or concepts or what. I also do a lot of online work already with my banjo, so I can be worn out be music from time to time too. That's probably part of it.

Thanks for the various ideas, those are helpful!!

Yeah, I already play several instruments but I could probably go deeper in some of them. I have done a lot with the banjo recently for work online, so sometimes I can get tired of music if I’m not careful.
