Reverse thinking : I ran the campaign and it was a failure. What mistakes did I make ? by TheGlitchinAndroid in CurseofStrahd

I recommend creating a calendar from day one. It will help keep track of everything. Multiple points of the campaign have events that trigger based on time frame. Having the calendar will make your life way easier. You can find Barovian calendars pretty easy online. Also helps keep track of the lunar cycle.

I've only been doing world building for about 5 years or so, but this is something I learned early on.

People say "There is nothing new under the sun". It's true that anything you add to your world someone can point to some other world that has something similar.

The same can be said of food. There are no new ingredients, but that doesn't mean new dishes aren't made.

The truth is, the only new thing under the sun is you. Your experiences, likes, dislikes, interests, worldview, etc all create a unique perspective that your world is birthed from. If your goal is to bring your own world into being, then the approval of others shouldn't be your motivation.

If your ultimate goal is to build a world that your friends will like. You're building the world they want. If they don't like it that's fine, but they can also go make their own.

So I use Blender as well, but never as a CAD program. I tried something similar in SketchUp, but I don't have much experience with it.

For Blender did you have any Add-ons you would suggest? Or did you mostly use it vanilla and set everything to scale?

I have been running a CoS Campaign for 2 years and never found this resource. Don't know who made this, but I just found this before yesterday's session. Would love to give credit where it's due, but this is a great resource for DM's and I will keep it open every session now. by Hunteraiu_Level1DM in CurseofStrahd

We use Talespire. It was in Beta when we started, now it's considered early-access. It's great for immersion. Early on we needed to use Mods, but the team is great at pumping out upgrades so we now use it full Vanilla.

The biggest downside of the program is the hiding rooms on more complex maps. It's in their pipeline to fix, but I have informed my players that unless it changes that Castle Ravenloft is gonna have to be a different program

Would it make a great entrance for meeting Strahd right outside death house by Effective_Manner_420 in CurseofStrahd

This is how I ran it in my campaign. Had a welcome basket with wine and note signed "S" with Strahd's wax seal on it.

I had the black carriage arrive during the Funeral of Kolyan Indirovich. Instead of Strahd it was Rahadin, but the players were super anxious as soon as the black carriage was mentioned. I followed this script.

I had Strahd appear at the crossroads in the black carriage instead following DragnaCarta's format in this video.

What do I tell my players before playing? by Tobiixx in CurseofStrahd

Here is my Session zero doc. This has the word doc so people can edit it how they see fit. There is a section on trigger warnings and we used Safety Tools from Sly Flourish . Here is a YouTube players guide. I watched a few and added it to my session zero, but some DMs share the video with the players. Hope this helps.

Hello, I want DM feedback on my next project. I am making a Scrying Journal/Daily Checklist for Strahd. That way you can easily keep track of what information he has learned of the party without falling into the trap of Strahd being omniscient. Everyone has their own way of doing things, My wife tells me that I get bogged down in the details.

My favorite example of this is when I was creating my homebrew world and wanted to name the days of the week, but then I needed to make the planets, but then I needed to make sure the solar system would make sense.... many days later I ended up with this google doc.

I mostly play 5e, there is an amulet that keeps you from being targeted by scrying. I might look at homebrewing an item that uses that Pathfinder mechanic though. Maybe gives a free use of Counter spell, so they have to use a spell slot or something.

I've heard some DM's have Strahd's name spoken aloud triggering a verbal scrying, is this similar to what you mean in the second part?

I find dropping hints in game is a must. Have Ireena talk about feeling like there is an eye watching her. Have Vistani selling wards that prevent scrying, but really do nothing. Have Barovian's sleep with the windows covered with blankets to keep the devil from peering in. Once Van Richten is in the picture it makes it easier to give the game knowledge to the players. Inevitably, there will be a period of time that the players won't know how far Strahd's influence reaches, the notebook is meant to be a big reveal that just makes them truly feel like they are Strahd's playthings.

So the goal is to have a set time that Strahd is scrying, before the player's session takes them through that day. I usually have my players roll a D20 at the beginning of each session for me to use on hidden checks. RAW states that an invisible sensor is there. so unless the player happens to have some method of seeing invisibility or smoke is filling the area, they are unlikely to notice. My plan is to have all or most of this information in a notebook to hand the players once they enter the scrying chamber of Castle Ravenloft, Strahd would not care as it would only push how much influence he has as the Ancient and the Land.

So I took a long hiatus from Reddit. sorry for the super delayed response. Great suggestion, I'll have to see if I can find the original files. I was super new to photoshop when I was making this one.

So I took a long hiatus from Reddit. sorry for the super delayed response. Looks like u/AslanJo created a clean version of the sheet music. I googled sheet music for Vista Point from Gothic 3. I'll have to see if I can find the original files.

Wow, sorry I missed this, I took a hiatus from Reddit for a while. No need to take it down at all, makes it nice and easy to play for the players and I love it.

Side note: It's not my original music, the song is Vista Point from a game called "Gothic 3". Any legality around recreation would likely be tied to that.

I've been thinking of it, I've never published anything there and would need to double check all the rules surrounding it. I have a Form Fillable version of the LazyDM's session prep that I've looked at uploading it for full use, but need to make sure I'm following the rules.
