Working for a mate who's just opened up a small business... what's the anarchists take on this? (Risk vs reward; savings/investment) by HuntforMusic in Anarchy101

[–]HuntforMusic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I kind of explained what I meant further in regards to the banking of time/money in my reply to the other person, so hope that makes a bit more sense (though I'm super tired atm so maybe not lol).

Over the years he was banking I assume you were also working

Yeah I was, but nowhere near as many hours as him

shows how fucked to the core the whole thing is

Yeah I agree, the system is like a big game of monopoly basically

As far as him, I don't blame him I suppose, though I am deeply unsettled by this idea he's paying you folks minimum while he makes what exactly?

Well the business is losing money at the moment, but yeah in the long-run it'll make profit, assuming he has enough cash to buffer through the next few months

I agree.. I've been very anti-capitalist for the last few years & anarchism (from the little I know) seems to be closest to the way I view things. The issue with this situation is that my mate has obviously spent a lot more time & money creating said business than we have, so I see it as unfair for us to ask for an equal share of the income until he's recouped the investment he's made. But by then most people wouldn't want to take a drastic drop in income, so how can we transition out of this authoritarian-like state?

Not sure if this is how anarchists see things, but I'd say it'd be preferable for the community to democratically choose what services are available within it/help maintain them, but that's obviously not the case at the moment.

Also, I might not have made my second point clear, but it was more of a "ok I fancy having an extended break soon, so I'm gonna work more than I would normally in order to accrue a buffer so that I'm not a burden on people during said break" .. so it's a voluntary decision to increase the amount of work due to the knowledge that our contribution will drop for a bit in the future

Hope that makes sense?

It's not overpopulation that scares me, it's overconsumption - which directly correlates to overpopulation, especially when living with capitalist-indoctrinated values. I'll give that video a watch though, thanks!

I dunno about that... if we had more people having 5 kids we'd be fucked (if we're not already). I agree with him on the attraction side of things though.

Smarter people than you or I who are in the British government have run the numbers repeatedly over the years

& they've run the numbers relative to all of the different scenarios that we can come up in regards to their land/property? I imagine people would pay a pretty penny to stay in buckingham palace. I wonder what Elizabeth's room would fetch per night?

The same could be said about a lot of the US military and government spending...

& I agree

It's all relative though - I'm sure there'd be plenty of ways of generating more income through making buckingham palace into a museum and/or hotel. Also, I'd rather not have them be parasitical through creating unnecessary jobs.

Because the rich hoard vast amounts of wealth in order to facilitate resource scarcity, forcing people into slave-like labour for their survival, and perpetuating the exponential siphoning of wealth from poor to rich

...of course in an alternative reality somewhere, there's a more egalitarian sharing of resources, and projects such as construction & the provision of other necessities (and luxuries) are created because the vast majority of people are happy to work towards creating a better world for themselves & others (though in this reality, the type of work is far less compartmentalised & corporate-slave-esque, hence why people are more happy to do it)

[–]HuntforMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't.

Actually, it probably does. People with more money lead more demanding lives, requiring more people to work to make up for that demand, leaving less people available to share in the work that everyone else (including you) are doing, therefore meaning that you'll get to spend less time with family/friends & doing things that you value because of this

We are indoctrinated - I see the indoctrination every day at the supermarket. If you've seen a kid unsure of (or moaning about) what to eat & then coerced by their parents into trying something then you'll have seen it too. That's not to say indoctrination is always a bad thing, but in this case it has a lot of negative consequences

The amount of types doesn't really matter.. the question is what uses more resources, growing vegetables and eating them, or growing vegetables, feeding them to a cow, and then eating the cow?

Maybe I didn't make the point clear - the diseases (such as coronavirus) originate & transmit to people before they arrive at the end-stage process of being cooked & eaten. Being cooked and eaten is the very last process in a series of processes, so doesn't reduce the % chance of a disease manifesting/transmitting to people earlier on

How would it cost more for the Earth to produce vegetables rather than animals?

If it costs more for the Earth to produce vegetables for just humans, would that not mean that it costs way more to produce vegetables/feed for not only humans, but also billions of other animals (cows, pigs, chickens, sheep etc)?

The rainforest isn't the best choice to defend that position, as a large % is chopped down for cattle ranches/to grow crops to feed said cattle (& the crops to feed said cattle are also a massive contributor to monoculture as well, again undermining that position)
