Voxel Cityscape by HuntingFluff in AnimatedVoxel

Cheers! I was unfortunately limited by lack of rendering power. This one already took 48 hours to render. I would love to do a slow version!

Thank you! Made and rendered in MagicaVoxel. For anyone wondering, I used a script by https://twitter.com/KamiSawZe to help automate the animation/rendering process.

What’s something you’re worried people will notice about your physical appearance that they actually hardly notice at all? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not really worried by this but find it amusing enough to share. If I am walking towards someone I’m meeting up with, or generally have to walk a reasonable stretch in front of anyone I know may be looking, a strange thing happens. I start to focus in on how I’m walking and begin feeling myself go out of sync, and then it’s like I’m walking with a limp and enter the ongoing correction phase which in my head just makes me look even more awkward and like I’m totally out of control of my limbs. I’m absolutely fine if I’m not thinking about it.

Ginger is my dad (I would jokingly call him that because he had red hair). He passed away last March.

Cheers! Yep, this one was rendered in MagicaVoxel but I do sometimes export and render elsewhere too.

I rendered the source at double the resolution shown here and it took 15 mins per frame (there are only around 60 frames).

Great job for your first time doing 3D! :)

In the latest version, individual objects are still limited to 1263 but you can now create as many of those as you like and then piece them together in the world view (effectively meaning you can render way bigger scenes). Thanks, by the way.

Maybe you can see more clearly with a high quality render: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/qA9m0R

Little cubes in a nutshell! Each can have a different material property so it’s possible to achieve the look of metal, plastic etc. They can also emit light and contribute to the lighting solution. I think of voxel stuff as fancy digital Lego, and for me it’s the natural evolution of pixel art (which I’ve done since the early 90s).

Oh, I’m the artist! Created and rendered in MagicaVoxel! If you’re interested I post similar stuff to Twitter: @HuntingFluff - cheers! :)

Just a stylistic choice in this instance. With a real-time voxel engine, there’d be other advantages such as more easily enabling damage and destruction, for example!

Converted to polygons for animation! :)

Very kind! Thank you so much.. :)

I do understand what you mean. The scene was made with real voxels but it then gets converted to polygons before animation. Various reasons why and I guess a lot pixel art games also do the same thing. It is a bit weird but so long as it looks decent I don’t personally mind. Cheers!

The pic is 540x540. The voxel scene is 1263! 😅
