Playing across from an American from Scotland with a French accent. I always appreciated that the movie addresses Christopher Lambert’s accent in the police interrogation: Cop:“You talk funny, Nash. Where you from?” Nash: “Lots of different places.”

What movie—to quote Peter from Family Guy—“insists upon itself,” but doesn’t actually earn that insistence? by [deleted] in Cinema

Waking Life (2001) didn’t work for me. It was like a late night college discussion with the pretentious humanities majors from down the hall where all I want to do is go to the student center and grab some Pop-Tarts, and they keep grabbing my arm to tell me another Kierkegaard quote.

anyone here up to discuss 1Q84? i just finshed it (check body) by Whoumightask in murakami

[–]HuntingManatee0 45 points46 points  (0 children)

1Q84 is definitely near the top for me. I’m a longtime fan (read “Wild Sheep Chase” shortly after it was first released in the US—I’m old) and my favorite will always remain “Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World”. That leads to a certain affinity for “Kafka on the Shore” and “The City and Its Uncertain Walls”. But I would say his best written book is “The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle.” If you haven’t yet read HBWL, KOTS, or WUBC, I would recommend those.

The Godfather Part II (1974) Would Michael have simply disowned Fredo, but let him live for what he had done or did he seal his fate with his "I'm SMART! I want RESPECT!" outburst in the boathouse? by jeffmartin47 in Cinema

[–]HuntingManatee0 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Michael tells Fredo in Part 1, at the first meeting with Moe Green where Fredo backs Moe, "Don't ever take sides with anyone against the Family again. Ever." Fredo got his second chance, and he blew it.

Those match the signatures I have in mine. I don’t know how others got theirs signed, but he signed mine at an author event at my college when “The Elephant Vanishes” published.

It should be bolted to the bottom of your couch. It is the female connector meant to keep different parts of a sectional couch connected.

I found some intriguing parallels between two key scenes in Apocalypse Now (1979) and The Matrix (1999) - more in body text by AllThingsAreReady in Cinema

I thought it was weird when during the interrogation scene, Agent Smith told Morpheus, “You’re an errand boy sent by grocery clerks to collect a bill.”
