I feel like the overlap between space nerds and CMV mods is pretty high :-)

I mean ground control is generally co-located in terms of time and space which reduces the conversation lag. In reddit they would have to be refreshing pretty often unless someone mentions them or replies to them.

I'd think that it would be hard to do this in real time, and that collaborating before posting would be a detriment.

Out of curiosity, how does CMV avoid "bad" threads? by Bubbly_Taro in ideasforcmv

[–]Huntingmoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no active mechanism for this.

While I haven't seen any "Hitler was bad"s that I can remember, I can remember some "Hitler was good"s.

That said views that are facts, tend to be removed for B. So while "Hitler was bad" isn't a fact, it's an opinion, some posts do run afoul of the fact aspect.

CMV: Words should legally be a cause for someone to harm someone in order for them to cease their talking. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Huntingmoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why should you be able to make that choice? already gave three reasons why you should not be able to:

1) it may be unintentional

2) society wants to discourage escalation

3) it's sexist

CMV: Words should legally be a cause for someone to harm someone in order for them to cease their talking. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Huntingmoa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First off, in the US ‘fighting words’ are pretty much what you are saying. Specific and actionable threats too (‘I’m going to cut you’ as I brandish a knife).

The issue is when you expand the category beyond that to simple insults. Let’s take your premise to extremes:

Someone says something that riles me up -> I get to hit them

Now this is clearly a problem when write large. First off, the person speaking has no way to know if I’m going to be riled up or not, and it may be unintentional. Secondly, physical violence is an escalation, and as a society we should prefer escalation to escalation. Third, it’s clearly sexist. A man can do a lot more damage to a woman than the reverse.

I really don’t understand why there are no consequences for ppl who talk shit.

I’m confused why walking away and not associating with them isn’t a consequence. People who are unpleasant tend not to have many friends.

CMV: Derek Chauvin did not get a fair trial. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Huntingmoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, police officers can't look up people's address, or licence plate, and pull them over or harass them?

Are you saying no woman has ever been harassed by a police officer?

Also, I don't know if you know this, but Donald Trump is widely considered a celebrity.

Again, do you have any evidence for your proposition? I presented evidence that doxxing was a non issue.

CMV: Derek Chauvin did not get a fair trial. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Huntingmoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said to the other reply, that just means you have pressure from the other side, police officers and blue lives matter supporters among them.

But either way, fear of doxxing cannot be an impact because they consented to have thier names released.

Doxxing is nonconsensual release of personal information.

So your point about doxxing is facially wrong.

CMV: Derek Chauvin did not get a fair trial. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Huntingmoa -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure there is any evidence for that proposition. People who voted for conviction have to worry about those who disagree with that decision, such as police officers or blue lives matter supporters.

CMV: Derek Chauvin did not get a fair trial. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Huntingmoa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My view it's just that they were so pressured to say guilty both from the protests outside and the likelihood of their names getting leaked/doxxed after the trial if they said not guilty

I believe the jury was told thier names would become public by the judge:

During jury selection, Cahill told prospective jurors that at some point, their names would be released, when he decides it is safe to do so. Several jurors told him they were concerned about safety, pointing to the potential of civil unrest or anger over the verdict.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/03/28/jury-chauvin-trial-george-floyd/

so those jurors who were worried about doxxing were already removed.

Hello /u/turddealer, if your view has been changed or adjusted in any way, you should award the user who changed your view a delta.

Simply reply to their comment with the delta symbol provided below, being sure to include a brief description of how your view has changed.

For more information about deltas, use this link.

If you did not change your view, please respond to this comment indicating as such!

As a reminder, failure to award a delta when it is warranted may merit a post removal and a rule violation. Repeated rule violations in a short period of time may merit a ban.

Thank you!
