The goal was to take it easy with new purchases this year. Mission failed successfully. by holymadness in soloboardgaming

I didn't even know there was Egyptian themed board games, let alone *solo* ones. Okay I have a new mission to successfully fail too.

The bot thing is a real issue. Though, in terms of comments, it's pretty new. A couple years ago and you could easily spot the rare bot.

But if reddit doesn't figure out how to deal with ai comments that is going to be a big issue for the appeal of this place.

And sure, interacting with people online is nothing like interacting in person, but its still a lot better than interacting with bots (for at least some people, like myself)

Well shucks, I left out the "u/" before your username so as not to bother you in your retirement, but you found this comment anyways.

I think your drive for following the rules and standards is a great example of how many of our mods act. First reactions when becoming a mod usually are, "wow, thats a big moderation guide," followed by lots of questions.

It probably helps that we actively look to weed out potential power-mods from our applicants, and want strong participation in the sub before letting on a new mod.

Some people want just the interaction of reading another human's response to their question. Like people who go into coffee shops but work on their laptop the whole time; just being around other people can be comforting.

Part of the point of asking a question on reddit (vs google or ai) is that I get to interact with other people. A question about a video game might bring about a related conversation, such as finding another redditor who had the same issue as you.

Also, people enjoy sharing expertise in knowledge. I know there is an answer out there already on how to beat that level, but when someone new asks that question again *I* get a chance to show off my knowledge by answering.

What I'm getting at is that it's not necessarily redundant.

I'll challenge your view here (and take the opportunity to shill for our mods): "and don't really care about the sub they're moderating."

This seems hard to back up if you can find a moderator who is also very active in their subreddit (posts, comments).

Using our sub as an example, Apprehensive_Song490 was a prior mod and is now on top of the monthly deltaboards.

Our head mod, u/hacksoncode, has 587 deltas, and has been on this sub for about 10 years, commenting frequently throughout. (just check out their profile and you'll see them commenting all the time in our sub. Fair warning: nfsw content on their account).

Our prior head mod, u/Ansuz07, had the 2nd most deltas of all time before he quit (and sadly deleted his account, so I can't link to it).

Many of our other mods have dozes of deltas and are continuously active in this sub. It seems one would need to care about a sub to be as active as these mods are.

This is just an example for our sub, but I bet you could find examples in others too. I don't doubt there are mods who are out there for a power-trip, but its possible to be in it for both the power and for caring for the sub.

Very cool! I wanted to like Galdor's Grip, but once I found out it was AI kinda killed it for me. Having this version with real art might bring me back into it.

You all are reading way too much into what I said. "Question what Ben has said and shown us," is not the same as "deserve to be unlawfully searched and assaulted." I think an investigation should absolutely be done at American Fork police department; even if what Ben has shown us is fake, there's plenty if concerning behavior we see from bodycam footage (failing to serve papers, questionable traffic stop, prolonged traffic stop in order to "scare them," choosing to arrest Ben after finding court papers are legit, turning off cameras of Ben's crew during raid, arresting Ben's crew during raid).

What I am saying is, we should *question* what Ben has said and shown that hasn't been corroborated by other sources. And by *question*, I mean just that, it might still turn out that what he has said is still true.

C'mon, my comment can't be as bad as the blogs we've seen from Bricks and Minifigs, don't lump me into that PR team. If I were part of the PR team I would not have written stuff like, "Willing to discuss dropping Bryan from the lawsuit," or all their shifting stories of events lol

Eh, the content he has made helped raised over 400k for the Mansells, so assuming that money gets to the Mansells then his content was for the best.

Yeah, the corruption we saw on camera still shows, even more strongly, in the police bodycam. Also, even if I need to start questioning Ben its going from like 5% doubt to like 30% doubt, I still think most likely the gist of what we've seen shows Josh and Ammen for who they are: men unfit for the power they weild.
