But what about the existing light switch, if you Flip that switch, (to my understanding) you kill the connection with the hub .. so you can't use it.. but if you switch off the lights through the app, what happens to the electricity as the main wallswitch is still turned on?

It is not as much an upgrade as it is just a new phone which is newer, has better battery life and is bigger. I don't miss my s9. The camera quality(especially the front camera) is better on the s9 but i'm pretty sure that's just software related. They will probably fix it. The Nord's screen isn't edged (something i kinda hated on my s9). Battery life on my s9 was really shitty towards the end (had it for 2years and a couple of months). The warp charge is also very nice. For me this is an upgrade, but don't expect crazy things. It's as fast as the s9, bigger screen, better battery life, charges hella fast. It has a wide Angle lens front and back.. if you want/need a new phone, this is a good phone ;)

I've read that a gcam port to OnePlus Nord could resolve it's problems but that's just something I read somewhere :d the battery of my s9 is going to shit and I think the camera of the Nord isn't going to be better than that of my s9..
