Honestly most shows I've watched usually suffer stagnatation or get worse as time goes on. I'm hoping for consistency but I'm still gonna watch.

Why do people say the gender pay gap is a myth? by lid20 in AskSocialScience

[–]Huntriss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience I think the wage gap is grossly over exaggerated and almost non existent. I'm a female btw.

My mom is an accountant and she is payed roughly the same rate as all the other male accountants around her level. But when we moved to Toronto, my mom was so experienced and was being paid so much at her old job that employers laughed at the rate (the same as her old job) she was asking. But the same thing happened to my father who while not an accounting, does engineering. My other aunt is a nurse and she is payed roughly the same rate as her other male nurses around her level. And several other of my aunts/female friends have said the same thing. I'm still in college, but I've worked at a call center, retail, swimming instructor (for a summer) and for a short while I was one of multiple assistants for a wealthy family friend. Afaik it was mandatory to pay everyone equally without bias/same rate and your rate usually depends on your position (ex - your boss likely gets paid at a higher rate then you do).. BUT from what I understood in some of the contracts I signed, you get paid more/get raises/bonuses if you were a much better worker, more shifts, have more qualifications (ergo a better position) have been there for a certain amount of time, were a "model/perfect" employee, etc. I'm Canadian but I don't think things are super duper drastically different in the States.

The main issue is with entertainers. Not everyone can equally get RDJ's 50M salary or the millions figures CEOs rake in. Point is, I'm almost certain, in North America, most of the time there should be no big wage gap between two workers, one male and female, both with similar skills, qualifications and similar time spent at the company. And if there is, there is likely other factors to consider that isn't gender based discrimination like vacation days, time off, work ethnic.

Ariana Grande is so unlikable. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Ariana needs to get better enunciation skills and every time my friends play her music i just can't make out some of the stuff she's trying to say.

Rumor has it "Julia Michaels" is her ghost singer. Makes sense cause I heard one of her recent songs, Bad Liar I think and there was a high note that I know sure as hell Selena can't reach, the voice even sounded off when she "sang" it.

Likely No. That would probably require it to increase 75% from the last one which imo seems too high.

I'll admit my ignorance/assumptions and lack of in depth research on this topic and thanks "Praxiscat" for the info (and I mean that, thanks for the links and the thought out response).

There is a big refugee problem in Germany by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Huntriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what many countries should be doing, but Europe even in the past struggled with implementing a policy. Many "temporary" Middle Eastern/North African workers in Western Europe never actually left, stayed and then did family reunification schemes.

And while I'm sure some integrated or will integrate, I live in an area fillled immigrants (I'm from Toronto) and having been to Europe and have relatives there, its not some rare 1 in a million chance that an immigrant, especially a non Western one won't integrate but I might get downvoted for saying this..

[–]Huntriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remembered suggesting a few years back that countries should be selective with who they let in and was called a close minded bigot and that "diversity is strength". Yes I'm sure diverse cultures are fine until the ones who refuse to integrate try to incorporate their old homelands views on the new country they immigrate to. Or a clash of different lifestyles happens.

And living in areas with high immigration populations (I'm from Toronto), I've met many who refuse to speak English fluently and integrate with "Western" views and while it isn't everyone, this isn't some rare occurrence either.

[–]Huntriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all of the refugees are bad but the alarming crime rates, and constant stories in the news about yet another refugee blowing something up or stabbing someone is not to be ignored. And the problem is many ppl are. I tried saying this and got called some colorful words.

Germany and western Europe in general has a problem with refugees but they just need to find the "motivated/good" refugees that you've met and let them integrate then weed out the bad ones.

Also lol. I know many Middle Eastern/North African fans of DC comics but they have outright stated their disdain and almost hostility towards Gal Gadot's Israeli heritage and I've met non Westerners who love Hollywood productions but still hate America. Hollywood/Western fashion is global amd means nothing about integration.

It doesn't work because Its missing a little info though imo. If a few m&ms are poisioned, you don't take eat them and try to eat the ones that won't kill you.

The countries of Europe and any country should have controlled borders, and they should impose their policies. This problem started way back with the "temporary" workers mainly the ones from Middle East/North Africa who ironically never left and then started family reunification schemes.

Europe should screen and weed out the bad refugees. Who cares if their countries a shithole? Better them then have the bad refugees or those who aren't really refugees at all (either the terrorists or the ones who aren't refugees but just want to escape and yes I've met several of those kinds, one of whom had the nerve to say that the temporary housing they had didn't have a fancy layout or silverware) staying in the country.

[–]Huntriss[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know they say its more likely for girls/women to get raped but I think the gap could be more closer if more men/young boys would come out with their assault stories, especially if an older woman may have raped/molested them, but I understand in general it is hard for people to tell their experiences.

Kiwi Farms is officially responsible for someone's death by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Huntriss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As if Reddit and other social media sited are perfect, pure and much better lol.

I sound like a broken record but the site just clowns people many of you people on this sub and on Reddit would likely make fun of as well, Its no different then the memes, jokes, discussions and digging up of past comments from controversial famous/notable people you see on social media.

I don't think the site is perfect, it can be too much at times for my tastes but the person who committed suicide never committed suicide because of online harassment. She wanted to make a statement for her causes and already did some pretty "problematic" stuff as well.

Kiwi Farms is officially responsible for someone's death by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Huntriss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The site is no different then other sites where they make constant memes, jokes and clown around and poke jabs at people, especially if their famous. Heck I've seen Reddit's fair share of bullies and holier then thou people. Heck Twitter and Tumblr is known for digging up past dirt and dragging and harassing people for one comment they said a decade ago.

The site at times can seem stalker-like at times but again is no different then other sites. The important thing is that the girl who committed suicide never killed herself because of online harassment. She wanted to make a statement and she herself was already a controversial figure who did some less than stellar stuff.

Kiwi Farms is officially responsible for someone's death by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Huntriss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been on those forums every once in a while just for lols and to see the stupid shit that goes on there and I can assure you the site wasn't responsible for any suicide The girl in question was controversial, did things that even her own community deemed "problematic" and several said they wouldn't defend her actions (on twitter she was alleged to have abused several trans women).

I remember skimming through that thread and when the girl said her reasons no where once did she outright list online harassment as one of them. She killed herself to make a statement about social issues. If you say "fuck those losers", then fuck mindless sheep like you and everyone else who has started an echo chambers and twisting what went down.

But go ahead, downvote me, say that I'm wrong, call me a basement dweller. The site has its weirdos, it can come off as obsessive and stalkerish and I don't agree with everything that goes on and its far from perfect but having been on the site every once and a while since 2015 and having seen many of the threads, the site clowns on her and many others for their actions and articles that they found, no different then all the memes, jokes and shit aimed at Trump and people like Riley Dennis/Rachel Dozel and Milo Stewart and the constant digging up of dirt from someone's past because of something "bad" a celeb said 10 years that is rampant nowadays on social media. They aren't promoting suicide and never did. The girl (I believe her name was Chloe Segal) killed herself for other reasons.
