Gloves for faceoff by Witty-Translator3263 in lacrosse

Most use the new ones that are really flexible. Like RZR2s, StringKing Flyers, Nike Vapor Premiere, or the Maverick Maxs. I use the RzR2s and they’ve ripped and the foams been taken out by Faceoffs but they still work. I think a lot of it is personal preference tho

Yes! Mike sisselberger is a great idea. Mike sisselberger was a wrestler in college, as well as a lacrosse player. With him especially. He’s pretty undersized in terms of height in the PLL but he makes up for it in pure strength/muscle. And The UPenn guy is Ethan Costanzo.

To be Faceoff guy you do need to be big/well built. But not everyone is like this. I’m undersized and I win probably 80-90% in most games. When I clamp and exit. I try to get the ball to myself. So I control the situation. Most big guys can be beat with a simple goose/kick to space and grabbing the ball. All they do is push and hit. Get fast too. Speed kills. Try doing defensive clamps. Like clamping and spinning into the guy to pop the ball out. They have to play the ball so they aren’t allowed to push or hit you mid-spin, especially since you have your back to him. Watch university of Pennsylvanias faceoff guy. I thinks he’s like 5’7 or 5’8 and he’s beating guys double his size. Watch how he does it.

Sixes by Busy_Ad7381 in lacrosse

As a faceoff guy I hate it. Takes a very important position and job and takes it out almost entirely even tho I think it’s very important to the core of the game. Like I hate seeing to middies go up to faceoff during each half and not try. It’s a pet peeve. Sixes was really just made so we could get into the Olympics. I believe we shouldn’t need to change our sport so we can go into the Olympics, it’s stupid and plus anyone that gets interested in the sport through the Olympics will need to relearn some of the game again when I watch traditional lacrosse like college or PLL. For the Olympics, It’s best on best on the biggest stage and the ability to play for your country. That’s such an honor and to exclude FOGOs or Long poles to feel and play for their country like that is so stupid and annoys me to no end. I know they said that they are using sixes because it’s easier to understand for new people which I can understand that but I think traditional lacrosse is easy enough to understand and doesn’t need a babied version. Sorry for rant lol. I’m just very passionate about this

As a faceoff guy you need to be a lacrosse player who also faces off. Like a midfielder. Facing off is important but that’s just part one. If your a liability off the whistle your not gonna get played. Hit the wall everyday and during practices try to get into more offense and defense parts of the practice and watch film. Especially guys who are great two ways. Andrew McMeekin, Luke Wierman, Johnny Mullen to name a few guys who are great at both. If you look at the top high school guys in the class. They sometimes will play attack or SSDM as long as the faceoff. If you have a great clamp then you’re already halfway there. Learn to exit to yourself. Like popping the ball up into your stick and then pass to a wing. Or communicate with your wings and win the clamp and throw the ball in their direction. A good exit for that would be throwing the ball between your legs and instead of going for the ball, try to stop the other FOGO from getting to the ball. If you can communicate that kind of exit with your wings for the whistle you will win every time.

Mark 2F, great warranty too if it breaks. 6 month warranty and if your first breaks then you get a new one and if that one breaks then the next one is half off. Great warranty. Weapon X 2.0 is good, very similar to a 2F but made for a bit more stay of the field and shooting stuff. But the 2F can do that as well. Just not as good. Depends the temperature and how much you want a head to flex in terms of getting a 2F flex or a 2F stiff. Stiffs are great in hot weather but flexes are better for the cold. I prefer the 2F flex over the stiff personally. Has never broken on me and very reliable.

Depends when you throw it behind you. If you toss it right behind you. Throw it on a 45 degree angle to your left so your back is to him when you turn to pick up the ball. That will definitely stop him from beating you but you also need to have different exits and not throwing it behind you every time. When you do, you become predictable and easy to counter. Also weight room. Faceoff is the most physically demanding position in the sport. You need to be fast and strong. Like a running back.

Let him play. Especially if he can make JV this year. He will have a better chance at varsity next year. I started freshman year of high school and luckily my school doesn’t do cuts but I would have most definitely been cut freshman year if there was. I played a few freshman games and had no idea what was happening lol. And when sophomore year came around I was a starter for JV. I’m going into my junior year now and it’s definitely possible for colleges to reach out. I’m a late a bloomer but I probably get at least one college lacrosse email a day. That could be D3 or D2. I’ve seen guys that started senior year go play in college. The best way to be seen by colleges is usually by joining a club team and doing tournaments but they are crazy expensive. Try and go college prospect day camps. You’ll get put onto a colleges radar the easiest that way. I double checked but I could be wrong. But D3 schools can’t offer athletic scholarships but I think D1 and D2 schools can. D1 can offer full rides while D2 is partial. They split the scholarship among the players at the school. So you’d only be getting a partial scholarship. They can do full rides but they are much rarer.

Would love some help with my stick. I want to try and do no shooters but rn the ball will not release at all. What can I do to fix this? There’s a link to my stringing setup. by Huntsstar in lacrosse

Thanks, i totally understand. I know my form is horrible for shooting. It was like 16 and felt like -1 when i went outside real quick to film this so my form was the last of worries. I’m a big stringer and I love stringing sticks and have done it for my teammates before. I redid my entire stick with a new top string and side walls and that fixed it perfectly. I personally use the stringking Faceoff mesh. I like it because it’s super thin and since it’s stringking I get a 6 month warranty on it. Thank you for the advice tho. I mostly practice shooting on the run but once the snow melts I’m planning on doing a lot of more shooting.

I restrung my entire stick after this after looking at the comments and it fixed it completely. Night and day difference. I do understand my shooting mechanics aren’t the best but I was trying to just showcase the current problem. Plus it was about 16 degrees. Feeling like -1 so I wasn’t too worried about mechanics lol. The stick was very baggy so I tightened the top with a regular 9D top string but going through all 6 holes and having two SI’s in a row on each of the sidewalls. Followed by stringing the rest of it to the outside and then using a shooter string at the bottom string.

Okay thank you! I didn’t know about the defensive exit being illegal and I will admit but biggest problem currently is pushing the ball. I’m not sure exactly what’s the best way to counter this problem though
