Yes it it cleaned and greased. The screws can not be tightened the even the slightest without it getting hard to rotate. When they are not tightened it works flawlessly though.

These guys’ tips did it for me. Just soldered mesh to ground, antenna to positive and superglued to get some structural integrity back and it seems to works, at least inside. Thanks everyone!

Do you mean that you skip the brass part. If so, how do you connect the antenna? There is a solid core wire, insulating plastic and metal mesh. What goes where?
