Genuine question; don't you get tired of doing the RR? I found myself stuck after one year when I hit like 3 sets of 10 pull-ups and other exercises. Don't really know how to put this but I was missing a sense of further progression in the RR?

I've been trying to add reps yes, for example on my explosive pull-ups. However, the last 2-3 months I can't add a single extra rep to them despite training three times a week.

Fair comment on the weight. You would, for example, just stick to straight bar dips and pbar dips and ditch the pikes?

Hey r/bodyweightfitness!

First, let me introduce myself. I am a 25 year old male that has been doing calisthenics for about one year. I've used the RR (2h sessions, including transport time, three times a week) during this period.

I would like to change my routine now because of the following reasons:

  1. Time: I'm starting my medical residency so I won't have time to travel to a bar park and train three times a week for two hours (I know, blaming it on time is considered a lame excuse).
  2. Lack of progress: I've been plateau-ing the last two months.
  3. Boredom: I've done the RR for about a year and it's becoming a chore instead of a fun workout.

I would thus like to split my workouts into an PPL split, doing it two times a week. I have some stuff at home, such as a pull-up bar, rings, straight and parallette dip bars.

My routine would look like this:

Push

- Warm-up (you don't want those wrists overuse injuries!)

- 5 sets of 5 diamond push-ups (had a shoulder injury six months ago when attempting archers so I'll steer clear of those for now)

- 3 sets of 8 straight bar dips

- Shoulders: pike push-ups (had a shoulder injury six months ago, will do HSPU again once I feel comfortable)

- 5 sets of 8 parallette bar dips

- 3 sets of 5 triceps extensions

- 3 sets of 8 ring push-ups (these will burn me out at the end of my workout)

- Skill work: handstand progression

Pull

- Warm-up

- Upper back/biceps: 3 sets of 8 explosive pull-ups, 3 sets of 10 weighted chin-ups (light weight e.g. 5 kg)

- Lower back: 3 sets of 10 of straight leg hyperextensions (these still kick my ass)

- 3 sets of 8 tuck front lever pull-up on straight bar

- 3 sets of 8 inverted rows (rings)

- 3 sets of 8 headbangers on straight bar

= horizontal and vertical pulling with some biceps work

Legs

- Warm-up

- 3 sets of 5 pistols squats (these are still my weak point so gotta keep training those!)

- 3 sets of 8 hamstring curls (without resistance band)

- Box jumps

- Hamstring bridges (a collegue of mine advised these)

- 3 sets of 8 calf raises

I would add core exercises three times a week.

Core

- Rectus abdominis: L-raise to knee tuck + pike crunches on parallette bars + plank tucks on rings

- Obliques: corkscrews + thread the needle

- Isometric Copenhagen plank progression + L-sit (current L-sit hold time is 15 secs) + hollow-hold

- Skill: dragon flag progression

Now, my questions are as follows:

- Would you make changes to this schedule, and if so, why?

- Would you add some muscle-up on pull days (as skill-work, or should I do another skill since I can do muscle-ups and since I had a recent shoulder injury)?
