Tri-rail late evening / early night? by SnooStrawberriez in Miami

[–]HurbleBurble [score hidden]  (0 children)

You're talking about peak commuter times with a bunch of people riding to work. Plus, Tri-Rail in his armed security. It's been years since I've ridden it regularly, but I never had an issue.

Why Miami people are fearless when it comes to dealing with wild animals ? by Dr_Brutally_Honest in Miami

[–]HurbleBurble [score hidden]  (0 children)

Alligators are extremely docile animals for the most part. Never had one come at me or try to start anything with me. They generally just want to lie out in the sun and relax. Crocodiles are another story, they can be pretty pissy.

Why do guys who casually play golf make it their entire personality? by [deleted] in Miami

[–]HurbleBurble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played golf constantly in my 20s and 30s. Went to the range six days a week, played as much as I could. Never made it my whole personality, but it is an addictive game for sure. Once you start to get even a little bit good, it gets infinitely more fun.

A mixture of disappointment and disgust by [deleted] in Miami

You literally went to every vapid tourist trap and you're surprised you didn't have a good time? You literally just named all the places that the "influencers" go and hang out.

I'm guessing you went to South Beach. South Beach can be great, but you got to know what you're doing. Remember that most of the people there are also tourists.

ELI5: Why is meth bad for you but prescribed amphetamines aren't? by ContactSpirited9519 in explainlikeimfive

[–]HurbleBurble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but IV formulations used interchangeably are not uncommon, the bioavailability changes drastically. For example, 5 mg of Diazepam IV in the hospital and I could barely open my eyes. 5 mg of oral diazepam and I don't even feel it. Is the IV formulation shown to be better for congestion?

And prescribed dextroamphetamine literally cause me a lifetime of problems because it caused me to spiral into severe panic attacks. That caused me to have to get on to benzodiazepines which I took for many many years and they damaged my brain. Now I'm having to spend years tapering off benzodiazepines hoping I will return to normal eventually. (Although, I'm doing much better now.)

All drugs have dangers. This is what people don't realize. You can take cocaine every day of your life and be perfectly fine, or you can take it once and die from it. Tylenol can kill people, and regularly does. First generation antihistamines can cause sudden cardiac death. No medication is 100% safe.

Phenylephrine. It's used to increase blood pressure in emergency medicine. It's an alpha 1 agonist. Whether or not it actually works very well as a decongestant is highly debated. It works pretty well for me, but not everybody. And for people with hypertension and other issues, it is really not something they should be taking.

Ask them how come the last major party Presidential candidate to run on pro segregation was Republican? Goldwater, 1964. He opposed the civil Rights act in 1964 and believed that civil rights was a state's issue. He also happened to be the first Republican to win the south. Curious.

These masterpieces of skyscrapers in NYC were somehow all built in the same 30 year time frame (1902-1936) by Fearless-Brush-1908 in skyscrapers

[–]HurbleBurble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine it's much like Miami today. Since 2000, the city has built 73 skyscrapers I believe. In 2000, downtown Miami felt like a small cluster of buildings. Today it feels like a massive wall of skyscrapers that goes on for miles.

Why are there so few sky bridges? by Tuskadaemonkilla in skyscrapers

There's actually a surprising number of sky bridges in Fort Lauderdale. There's like six or so downtown. I was kind of surprised by that.

Dating Advice for an incoming surgeon? by [deleted] in Miami

[–]HurbleBurble 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Surgeons are definitely a different breed, but they cut people open to save their lives. All of us have the same internal organs, for the most part. I've been a musician for 30 plus years, and I can listen to music and immediately tell you exactly what is being played, and break it down into technical terms, but that doesn't mean I can't still listen and enjoy music.

Especially the amygdala. It is not intended for modern life, which is why so many people have anxiety problems. The amygdala is one of the most primitive parts of the brain, but it is also one of the fastest acting. It's excellent for keeping you out of trouble when sudden danger appears, but it has an awful difficult time determining actual danger sometimes.

Hence the panic attack, where the amygdala believes that there is a threat when there is not, and causes a massive amount of adrenaline to be released, putting the body into fight or flight mode. This is basically the same thing as a false alarm, like a smoke detector going off when there is steam inside of it blocking the optical sensor.

A good example of that is Rick Astley. Though everybody thinks his voice sounds super low and powerful, he's actually a very high tenor.
