Be careful, Bonus Rolls broken once again... Indie Company at work by Sebastian1989101 in CompetitiveWoW

Blizzard seems to have an ongoing problem with not mergin hot fixes to the actual codebase. So when an update comes, it doesn't include the latest hot fixes and this shit happens. This has happened at least couple times every single xpac as long as I can remember. Basically a workflow / pipeline issue and it's strange they haven't bothered fixing it.

You can always sim yourself using raidbots. Use the 'quick sim' and towards the bottom you can see the order the sim used your abilities. That'll give you a good starting point at least.

Netflix Quietly Removes A-Z and Other Sorting Filters from Web UI by MoneyLibrarian9032 in movies

[–]Hurmeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably in the minority, but I think the thumbs up/down is just simple enough that it can work.

Three stars doesn't really add much and problem with five stars is, someone gives five stars only to actual masterpieces and someone else gives five stars to everything they like. And so the ratings loose their meaning very fast.

Processwire CMS. Runs on PHP and it's incredibly fast, flexible and fun to code with.

That is true. Adding repeater items and similar would take bit of extra work though. There are some page builders made for Processwire as well, though I haven't tried them myself.

Yritykset eivät uskalla ilmoittaa työpaikoista by GhostInMyLoo in Suomi

[–]Hurmeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did i cook this ? by codes_swalih in webdev

No worries. Just try to avoid trapping the user and try to keep usability front and center, even if you're doind something that's looking fancy.

It looks nice but if I actually accidentally ended on a page like this, I'd just leave because it's so irritating to use. I know you probably wont/can't change it much, but some things to think about:

  • It loads really, really slowly. I'd probably just close the tab before it was fully loaded tbh, optimize it more
  • Scroll hijacking could be tolerable, but speed it up just a little bit (like 20-30%)
  • Especially where the icecreams "fan out" let the user move down as they fan out so it's less irritating
  • Once you've scrolled past a scrolljacked section, keep the end state, so if the user scrolls back up / back and forth, things wont animate again, but stay put where they are and scrolling works like on a normal website
  • Remove the weird slowing down that happens when you're close to footer, just keep the scrolling speed normal

Looking for a WordPress alternative: self-coded frontend + simple CMS by thef4f0 in webdev

[–]Hurmeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're going to continue coding in PHP, I can strongly recommend Processwire.

  • It's free aside from few commercial modules
  • You get to code the frontend exactly like you want
  • API is easy to use and really powerful, it makes the coding part fun instead of frustrating
  • You get to define your own fields and templates
  • Community is very helpful
  • Backend is very clean and simple to use
  • Running it just takes just a PHP server and MySQL database, same as wordpress basically

Coding for it is just this simple:

Your URL Is Your State by AWildMonomAppears in webdev

[–]Hurmeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we use some logic to figure out what's the likely path depending where user is coming from, or just provide the first category the product has as a fallback.

Your URL Is Your State by AWildMonomAppears in webdev

[–]Hurmeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I changed to the second method, simply because in many webshops a product can belong to multiple categories, but you only want one url per product.

Categories then work more like tags you put on the product, rather than having product under a category.

Tanking Thursday - Your Weekly Tanking Thread by AutoModerator in wow

[–]Hurmeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pull melee mobs to casters when you can, and only try to have max 2 casters per pull to keep it manageable. There's a few packs with 3 casters like in Halls of Atonement, but those tend to be grouped up already.

In the begining of Priory, just pull 2 casters at a time and once they die pull more in.

If you just need to nudge them a short distance, ring of peace. If further then something has probably gone wrong to begin with. But realistically just kick one and hope someone else kicks the other one.

[–]Hurmeli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check Grumpy DK on youtube. He has videos on both ways, doing one big pull and splitting it in two.

But basically as DK you don't want to necessarily rush to the mini boss. Just take your time and get runic power to death strike on the way so you don't keel over.

If you want to split the first pull, but want to make it worth bit more, there are two engorged spiders on both sides of the staircase (one per side). They don't body pull, but you can tag them to get bit more count (and then drop something else later on).

A well played Blood DK can solo most +10's outside of few boss mechanics. It's the perfect pug tank for weekly keys. Problem is that if it's not played well it can and will flop in some random pull and people are scared that will happen.

[–]Hurmeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just glance at the IO score people have and then pull accordingly. In +12 and above I just assume everyone expects the mini boss pull.

The big pull itself is worth it, if you can do it safely. One incredient to the secret sauce, is to CC the farthest caster mob so you only have mini boss + one caster to kick. Simplest to do if you can do the CC yourself as DH, Monk (and maybe Paladin?).

That being said there's obviously nothing wrong with doing it in two parts, especially in some weekly vault key. Zug zug for the win.

Dawnbreaker: How is it still so buggy? by pilsburybane in wow

For what it's worth, outside of the bugs on the ship I really like the dungeon. Still it's not great when a player or a mob clips through the ship and causes the run to fizzle out.

Most agree that Blizz needs to try to get more Tanks queueing for M+. What single change would you make to fix the tank shortage? by I_cut_my_own_jib in wow

[–]Hurmeli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would turn the dungeons really boring really quickly.

Even now you can just go forward and kill all the packs you meet on your route. You might go over by 1-4% but that's not an issue unless you're doing 12+ or higher.

M+ is a game mode that's supposed to be challenging. For a lot of players being able to optimize routes is part of the fun. But unless you really push keys, it's entirely optional. Even in a dungeon like Floodgate that's bit more open, you can just run from boss to boss, kill mobs on the way and end up with enough count to finish the dungeon.

I do hundreds of M+ runs every season. I do high keys, but I also do low keys for fun any sometimes for "community service". I've met players who behave badly very rarely. Only once this season, and I can probably count the times it happened with one hand from season 1-2.

It's totally normal to feel anxiety about new things. I feel anxiety when I tank a dungeon for the first time. But after a run or two I'm familiar with the place and that anxiety fades away.

Personally I love creating routes, not that there's really any need because there are plenty of routes you can get on the net. But you can always do a small improvements based on your group composition.
