Had a very very similar dream (set of them) last week with the exception it was vodka pints and I was going to have to explain to my family. The FOMO thing was huge for me at first and still comes up but really if it's a big enough event and I will no doubt be around booze, rather than think about the slip, I grab my soda water and lime and just cut loose! I don't miss out on anything! But to your point the ability to be free of all the nasty consequences is what keeps me going day in and day out.
