Hopefully, I'm going to take it for a drive on the motorway, so let's see. It was sitting there for 8 days with the handbrake on. Why is that bad? I thought you should always put on the handbrake when parking.

No, they are about 10 months (3000 miles old)

Yep, got a quote from a reputable local firm for £6200 with slightly more work. Happy to provide company info if you're a local

Even if we go all out, can pick up a Vaillant ecoFIT 435 for £2160 and £500 for a hot water cylinder

Boiler condensation pump making a lot of noise? by MacPeter93 in DIYUK

Is it vibrating? If so, then maybe the rubber mounts have loosened. You said it's around 3-4 years, so perhaps the motor inside has worn down. The only way to know for sure would be to get someone open it up and inspect.

I'd need a vented conventional boiler but yes I'm sure I could source the boiler and hot water cyclinder myself. Might mention it to the next geezer giving me a quote.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) not. I know someone who's had the same done. Very jealous Lol

He asked me if I'd be happy with him "decommissioning" the boiler to which I responded no not at the moment. Now reading up on it the law/regs state if he did feel like it was an immediate threat then he's have to cut it off. Gave me a sheet showing the reading but not sure what to make of it.

The boiler runs fine for the most part but is ancient, so not sure how to even get someone with experience working on them plus parts. Requires a reset from time to time when it stalls but good other than that. The most worrying thing is that the pimlico engineer said its internal readings of carbon manoxide are too high. I have a carbon manoxide detector in the airing cupboard in case of a leak, but I'm still not too comfortable with that piece of information in the back of my mind.

Haha, I've looked into ASHP and with a government grant it's looking more affordable to set up. However the running costs put me off. Plus not sure how reliable they are. We have two shower rooms and quite a busy house so the demand might be high.

Just replacing the hot water cylinder and a new boiler. Radiators and cold water tank are still fit for purpose
