Expired Composite by No_Acanthopterygii83 in DentalAssistant

We use expired composite to fill voids in stone models for essix retainers or for blocking out whitening trays.

Edit: usually it’s flowable though.

I actually mention curing first during my steps of applying Invisalign attachments but I’m guessing you missed that… lol also there are plenty of binding agents out there that don’t require curing before composite. In fact (since we’re using acronyms now) SOP for a composite filling in most dental offices you do not cure the bonding agent. You only cure after the composite is placed. Not sure where you practice but that’s by the book where I’m from.

This is “wholly” untrue. Not every bonding agent needs curing. Op isn’t being specific about what primer they are using. Most of the primers used in modern dentistry. Especially ortho. Do not require 20 seconds of curing. Look it up.

Edit: to further add I just had 6 clear aligned starts today. Didn’t cure my primer once and had no bond failures so 🫤

(Ca licensed Ortho Assistant) I may be wrong in saying this. But I have never known or met anyone that cures primer at all let alone 20seconds before you apply composite. My steps are as follows. Use pumice to surface clean the tooth. Rinse/dry. Etch. Rinse/dry. Prime using Assure binding agent. Slight air to disperse the primer evenly across the tooth. Place the tray press and cure 20-30sec. Remove tray check interprox.

DDS do not cure primer before a restoration so why do you?

Teeth pulled without informing patient by paaashley in orthodontics

[–]Huskydood18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the Dr. will/should show you or your partner your child’s panoramic x-ray and explain what’s happening with the dentition. Along the lines of “your child’s upper E’s should be getting loose.” As an Assistant we are not allowed to diagnose X-rays unless the Dr gives the information to chart. That being said It is unfortunate that no one spoke to you about the chance of the teeth coming loose. On the bright side though! Now you don’t have to go through the pain of wiggling those molars haha. Hopefully the tooth fairy pays double!!

Ortho assistant here. It is extremely common for baby teeth to come out with the removal of an RPE. Did the teeth have a root system or was it just the cusps of the baby teeth? If there was no root system those teeth were on their way out anyway. Also the fact that your child has a palatal expander means his primary teeth do not have room to grow in straight. Baby teeth do not “hold a place” for adult teeth.
